What tools to take apart primary and secondary?

Maybe a dumb question, but give me a little insight here guys. I want to try some different clutching components this year, but it seems silly to go to the dealer for simple changes like that. Mostly just looking to change the primary weights and secondary spring.

Those who are doing this stuff at home....do you have specialty tools (pullers, spring compressors, etc) or some home brewed solutions? Thanks!

Clutch puller, press (I bought mine from SLP) good set of snap ring pliers, and basic tools and you can do the things you want (change springs, weights, helix). The clutch "holder", available from SLP seems overpriced put works well when removing or torquing the clutch. If you want to remove the spider to re-shim etc., then you need another special tool.

DIY!

Primary weights are a simple swap. Once the clutch is off. I is use C clamps to compress the clutch. An Allen set n small wrench will take the small bolt holding the weights.
I made my own tool for compressing the secondary out of parts I found around the shop. 2.25'' box tube cut out hole big enough for the snap ring. Then threaded rod through the middle.
(hint) make sure you have a good quality torx driver for the back side of the secondary. Wrecked mine the first time

clutch tools

I have a polaris clutch puller,
SLP clutch holding tool- 20-202
SLP clutch press 20-204

The clutch press will make changing springs & clutch maintenance very easy, highly recommended. Oh yeah, theres a snap ring that has to be removed from the secondary, get a beefy snap ring remover tool, mine is made by channelock. I had a snapring remover tool before this but it was smaller and it didnt work at all.

The slp press is the best tool to compress the secondary. Like mentioned, a good snap ring tool (I also like the channel lock) is a must. You won't need to pull the primary to change weights. There are several tools that compress the primary while still installed. I use the bunker hill clutch tool from Hi-performance Engineering. This also works well to change pri springs while the clutch is still installed. Slp makes a good puller, if you have to pull the primary.

Like the guys above said A GOOD par of snap ring pliers. The 15 dollar homeharware and canadian tire ones aint gunna work, they dont open wide enough and the interchangeable ends all break. And make sure you sleds not in reverse when useing your L tool for taking off the belt.
