What to look for when buying used shocks

I'll start with some general stuff, you guys can pose your personal situations and I'll do my best to answer..

1, rods, inspect the full length of the shaft for knicks and chips. This is of major concern with sc4 doo rears, they tended to tap the shaft on the upper cross shaft....!
2. eye bushings , always make sure they are WITH the shocks,, some brands use different styes that will fit from sled to sled, but are shock brand specific.
3. age. how old ? I know,, duh ?right..
4. services done to shocks, ?
5. spring rates on fronts ??
6 model of sled they came off originally, " even though different brand,, length is top priority ".

Brand loyalty or swap ,, can we do it ??

For the general public,, changing from one brands 18'' non rezzy to another will be fine. PPS shocks being the wildcard,, they were set for a given travel and may not ride as you want at all..dont cross them from brand to brand.

Valving stacks and styles of ifp as well as different types of adjuster for low speed and high speed compression if so equipt can vary widely.

installing kyb's or fox in place of walkers would be a huge change, so much so it may be a waste of funds after the purchase price and the revalve and re spring work is finished..

If you ask I will give you my best answer .. suffice to say some interchange well others are not so friendly..lol

add some questions guys and I'll update this with the pertinent ones
and maybe Milehighassasin can make it a sticky ..
