what to do.

Have a 2005 900 rmk, love the sled, but it has a 166 track on it, I may go to the mountains once maybe twice all this winter, I talked to a guy that has a low mileage 05 900 fusion, he wants to trade straight across, probably better for what I will be doing with it, mainly trail riding, but I dont really want to part with the rmk. what would you guys do:confused:

Well with if it was a shorter sled I would say keep it but.....

I use my RMK 151 in ND mostly flatlander backwoods style and love it but it is definately not stock.

If it were me, I would keep what you have.. you know what yours has been through and have no idea on what this has or has not done to his machine regardless of the miles.

If you're not gonna ride the hills, you might as well get rid of the RMK. The Fusion's going to handle the trails much better and you'll be able to rip down em as fast as it'll go. That 166 will come apart if you hold it at 70 for very long

Yep past 70 and you can delaminate. The Fusion should do 120 on a lake bad.

But you might be getting a headache from a sled you don't know about.

You could probable get a skid and all the trimming for a shorter track for $500

I would just put a shorter track like a 151 because if your still going to go to the mountains at least once the fusion ain't gonna cut it. And like everybody else said you know your machine and have no idea what he's done to his.

I know this 70 mph track speed deal has been kicked around for a long time, but has anyone had a 166 delam on them due to speed or anything else for that matter?

Over the past few years people have posted with pics of tracks coming apart at 70 - 75 on this site.

Ive had my 151" up to about 85 and its still in perfect condition. What makes the fusion so much faster than the RMK? I realize track size cuts down on it a little, but is it mostly in the clutching/gearing? Would it be possible to have another set of gears and clutch springs for when you're trial riding or when your in the mountains? I've been considering doing that for a while. Is it possible?

The shorter the track, the higher the gearing due to less weight, rotating mass, and overall power necessary to spin it.

You could definitely keep a spare set of everything for trail riding, especially with a mid-sized track like that 151...just time and oil to change things around.

alyce001, keep in mind that you will have to shorten the tunnel, running board coolers, etc if you go with a shorter track and suspension. Otherwise, the sled will look awfully funny...plus, the rear cooler probably won't get enough snow to cool the sled adequately

hundo wants a turbo yammie! Lol

I have also looked at a rt 1000 skidoo with a 151 track, I thought that it may be a better dual purpose sled but my rails on the 900 tip up in the back so what am I really going to gain from going shorter
