WHAT TO DO NOW??

:mad2: My 09 800 Dragon is in the shop yet again for the 4th time with a blown left side... I got the last new top end in Feb 2010 and I have 4 rides on this new top end! The problem is my warranty was up in OCT 2010! Should I be expected to pay for this new top end? When it has been polaris problem to begin with? My dealer is working with Polaris now to see if they will cover it! If Polaris does not cover it. I may have to resort to the Idaho Lemon Law for help.. Give me your thoughts????

Yes, Polaris should definitally stand behind it. However, it is unlikely that they will. The other thing you should think about is if they haven't fixed it the prior 4 times why would you think that it will be fixed when they put it back together this time?

I've talked with some very knowledgable Polaris mechanics who are just sick at how this has been handled. The lemon law may be a very good option with a sled like that. I suspect the headaches aren't going to go away any time soon. Either way you are going to have to take matters into your own hands.

If you do put it back together this is what I would do. This isn't gospel or anything, but this is what I did.
1. Wiseco pistons will bring the piston to cylinder tolerance to where it should have been from the factory.
2. Power Commander V will fuel the motor the way it should have been from the factory.
3. Cap the lines from the exhaust valves so they aren't being held closed and retaining heat.
4. Use engine Ice coolant. (just peace of mind)
5. Talk to Indy Dan at Indy Specialties about modifying the head for better cooling around the exhaust port.
6. Get the crank and clutch balanced. If the motor locked, it is likely it is no longer true.
There is likely more, but that is all that is coming to mind right now.

Sure would like to know how you came out on your dragon ?? I went threw 5 motors (top end) under warranty on my 08 dragon and now its in for number 6 at 1500mi total and don't know if their going to fix it or not !!! I've been told that a group of people are trying to get a suit against Polaris but haven’t been able to find out anything so any info would be good

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

1 You either take all your service records of repairs to a lawyer and sue.

2 Add a PCV to change the stock fuel settings to ones that are safe. (This is the route that I finally took and worked out good for me.)

3 Sell it and buy a different sled. (This is also the route that I took when I bent the crank on my 08.)

What to do? Buy my sled. New top end, vents, bags, stock exhaust, flowrite hood vents.
JK.

My sled will be starting on only its third top end in the next few days. Lost the PTO side to ? after a throrough warm up (122 degrees before leaving the lot, something over a mile on trail at low-moderate speeds). I don't know for sure when I lost it -- on the trail, or the first time I went over about 6500 starting on a hill.

I, too, am really torqued. Why should I have to purchase two or three voltage regulators, two monocylinders, four pistons, etc. etc? Lose days and days of riding?

This sled apparently had (before I bought it) a new VR, chassis relay and instrument pod. It was headed for the update, Polaris said the warranty would be extended, the update would work, yada yada.

It was only this third time around that I understood what the warranty extension was-- it wasn't, if you had an existing two year warranty that would carry past June, 2010. (Mine did-- ran out in Oct, 2010.)

I had the joyous conversation with Customer Service: "There is no one here that can discuss this issue with you." (you could hear the script paper crackle). When I asked where to call for some one at some place, I was told,
"There is no one at any location that can discuss this issue with you."

I am thinking about a suit. I don't think the Colorado Lemon Law applies, but the Consumer Protection Act seems to. While it might not reach the original purchase, I was the owner and purchased the second monoblock, and was the recipient/beneficiary of the factory upgrade. I was the purchaser of at least one VR. Think Pol can say, "treble damages" and "attorneys fees?" The CCPA does.

BTW, the next monoblock is a replated deal from aftermarket; the pistons are Wiseco, the new Piston Bearings come from elsewhere, and I highly regret not being able to purchase an aftermarket gasket set (seems they are all sold out-- in the last two weeks, non-polaris factory 800 parts have sold out across the country.)

Sorry it took so long to get back! Polaris covered my parts only (out of warranty) I paid for the labor. I added a PCV new clutch weight and springs. SLP pipe/can, SLP coolant bypass (adds more coolant to mag side) I have about 60 miles on this new set up! All seems to be going good. However my buddy had the same set up as me - SLP coolant bypass and fried his after 100miles. Worried big time!
