So I imported an 08 Nytro MTX from Montana to Alberta in October. The border requires a recall clearance letter which I supplied to them. They said there was open recalls or bulletins on the sled and wouldn't accept the recall clearance letter. I talked to my dealer and he said it was only voluntary recalls that weren't mandatory unless there was a problem.

So my authorized Yamaha dealer sent a note stating as above and referring to my sled's VIN # and specific bulletin #'s. The border emailed me back again saying I need another letter from a US dealer before they will release an inspection form so I can register it.

Here's what the last email said:

RE: 2008 YAMAHA SNOWMOBILE
The Registrar of Imported Vehicles has received a copy of your recall letter. However, we were not able to accept it, as per the reason listed below:

Recall letter Rejected by FEN on Dec 09 2008 14:23 ...We received a letter from a US dealer. However, this is not acceptable as we require a printout from an authorized US dealer's internal network computer system to accompany this letter. This printout gives a screen shot of the vehicle's specifications including recall information. Please note this case cannot be completed until a printout is received that meets these criteria.

Once we have received the above information we will release the inspection form in a timely manner.

Thank you

Can anyone help me out or lead me to someone who knows exactly what they need from me?

Thanks.

It is simple for the dealer...do you have one? they can fax it, atleast all other border docks can be faxed...

if you need a dealer to contact holler at me in PM

they are a real pain in the *** and sticky on paperwork some times. I bought a street bike in canada and a buddy did too. We picked them up the day after new years. I needed a letter from kawasaki america stating the bike meet's us epa and emisions standards. Supposubly only one guy from kawasaki usa could do it and he was on vacation for a week. I tried calling alot and never got anything. so kawasaki canada faxed me a letter stating it meet's usa epa and emisions standards.
I drive from boise idaho to pick it up and they would not let me take it back across the border because I did not have the letter from kawasaki "USA". Damn I was pissed. I had the letter from kawasaki canada and it is even engraved in the stock exhaust system that it meets usa epa and emisions standards. I had to drive back into canada and leave it at a storage unit so I could come pick it up a couple weeks later with the letter from kawasaki usa.

call up a dealer in the states and they will most likely be more than happy to fax you a recal clearance letter. The RIV stuff is a pain in the *** i have done i plenty of times and i still get stumped sometimes.

I had the same sort of situation. Dealer in Denver looked at machine and wrote a letter saying the recall didn't apply (only for electric start models).

After going around the merry-go-round with the RIV call center, I asked to speak to a supervisor. She was very helpful, used some common sense, :light: called the dealer in Denver to confirm the letter and released the form. The people on the phones are just to hung up on the policy manual sometimes.

I've got the recall Clearance letter from the US dealer but the border guys are now saying they need:

Anyways I'm working with Staacks Motorsports in Butte, these guys are very helpful. Thanks.

recall letter

It can't be a simple letter from the dealer. They need a screen shot from their dealer system that show that the MANUFACTURER doesn't have any outstanding mandatory recalls. It has to be something from Yamaha USA - not the dealer. A screen shot faxed to you will work - worked for me.
