The other day I went riding on some setup snow and my 09 m1000 felt hard to steer like there was alot of ski pressure . I have my front shocks set at 50 psi and my front skid shock adjusted all the way up . So it should feal light in the front . Is there a after market ski that make it have less streering effort than the stock ones for this type of day ?

Ski pressure

Look at your limiter straps. If they are tight loosen them up a couple of notches. This will allow more weight transfer and less ski pressure.:D

Mods

Adding a set of MODS is like adding power steering to your M1K, if you can get over the "look". They are the best powder ski I've tried, o.k. on the trail, and look like they were built in the 80's. You could try the geo mod to the rear skid or the fox backcountry upgrade revalve for better ride and weight transfer. I've all three done to mine - handles like an M7 - much better then stock IMHO.

Thanks that is what I was kind of think about something to lighten the steering up . I really don't care about the trail . Also what is the geo mod ?

One thing I did after reading some posts here was to lower the front arm of the rear suspension to the lower hole. This made a noticable difference in the heaviness of the steering. If you look inside the tunnel where the front arm attaches, there is a steel doubler plate with the hole already there. You just need to center punch and drill out the aluminum tunnel. Then re bolt up the front arm to the lower hole. It lowers the front arm about 1/2 of an inch.
The disadvantage is it raises the angle of attack of the track, but I have not experienced a difference in trenching from the original setup.

Also, do a search on the "Geo" mod. Geo is a member here who has done alot of M series suspension mods that are simple to do and work well. I have not tried them yet on my M1K, but did the recommended mods on my previous M7.

Thanks Bone I forgot about doing that . I used to do that on my polaris sleds .

One more thing, since your original question was about skis - I have tried both the Sly Dogs and the stock skis - I liked the wider Sly Dogs on my M7 and M8, I like the stock skis better on the 1000. They definitley are easier to steer and I just like the way the stock skis sidehill - the narrower skis seem to help when rolling over to sidehill better and with more control. Those are the only aftermarket ones I have tried - maybe others are better.

On my 09 M1000 SP I tried about everthing. Shock revalve, longer front shock and limit straps, stiffer front shock spring ect ect.... What I found worked the best for my sled was to change the location of where the steering tierod bolts to the steering post. Free and easy mod that reduced steering effort on my sled a bunch.
On the steering post there are a number of holes where the tierod bolts on. Remove the nut and bolt and remove tierod drill the next hole in line to the right size and reinstall nut and bolt w/ locktite in the new hole. I did have to realine the handlebars but you all know thats easy to do. Now the steering effort is right there with my M-8:)
