what size socket to remove primary from crank?

Anyone know what size socket you need to remove the cap screw bolt that holds the primary clutch to the crank. did a four post once and it took a 12mm torx i believe, but i was pretty sure the three post just needed a 12 point socket? and is that thread a 9/16 nf?
