i just got a sled with a digital egt gauge for each cylinder. i am diagnosing problems with it and would like to know what normal operation EGTs would be (idle, midrange, and WOT)? it is a 98 RMK 700. right now i am getting 150-200* difference between cylinders and dont know why. carbs are set up identical.

also, i want the engine to be as reliable and last as long as possible. what is the max EGT i should see?

My old 900 had usle temp around 350-400 if i remember correct.. Had some split bit not 200. Thats too much I belive.

Light trail riding, light throttle around 5-5500 rpm it was 1100-1200.
2/3-WOT sometimes as high as 1400. If you see any more than that, start backing off.

Before getting to far into figuring it swap your probes from one side to the other
to eliminate them. They can drive you nuts. The ONLY way to find what temp your engine likes is to read the plugs and the piston domes and then take note of what exhaust temps you have.

Good Luck

the plug on the "cooler" side looks fairly wet and black. the dome of the piston is black like it should be, but it is a darker black than whats on the warmer side. the plug on the "warmer" side looked good. it is not wet at all, and is a light black color
