What makes Insurance companies total a sled?

I'm just not sure if it's a certain dollar amount or certain types of damage or what. What is your experience with them?

varries from insurance provider to insurance provider. can be as little as 65% of actual cash value and up to 100% of actual cash value. (depends on who it is insured with)

rule of thumb is, if the original estimate without tear down is above 70% of a.c.v. the unit should be considered for total loss. depending on how large of a supplement after tear down there might be. ski

Thanks for the replies. I guess I'll just have to check with progressive on that one. Either way I will make out well, but the more damage they find the better in my situation. My sled has had a rough life.:D

Total?

Savage value + repairs = $ greater than that market value

Salvage value is what the aution price for the wrecked sled brings. They make money in markets where salvage value is high!

I tried hard as Hell to get them to total my sled so I wouldn't be out of a sled for months waiting for parts and the dealer to fix it. They did and I had a new sled in 4 days.

Mine was just totaled... I thought it would be fixable, but when the dealer said the tunnel was bent that added another $1300 in parts and 10 hours of labor to the bid so the bid to fix was $2500 more than the book value of the sled. Pretty easy to total it at that point.

pretty easy to total them. Any small ding or tear, or crack the dealer sees they right up for the bill. And since sleds don't hold value they total them.

if the tunnel ain't bent just buy it back from insurance and fix it on your own if you want. I have done that before. Course you are on down time while doing it.
