What is up with used sled prices?

Ok, so I've been keeping my eye open for a replacement sled for my RMK, a 2 up and I haven't looked much in the swapmeet section as I find it hard to search for local sleds.

But I've been looking at the local trader mags online, and I'm lost..

You see some stuff like a 03 Skidoo 2 up with a fresh rebuild for $3200.. then there's a 02 Something or other 2 up, great shape, great specs for $2200, but 1 catch it's on the other side of the country the guy says shipping is $500, but he's covering half and the other half is included in the $2200.. but he has no idea where I am to quote shipping.. and to top it off he's "in Europe" wants to sell the sled because well he's not going ot use it anymore...

It just bugs me cause all of the sleds I'm interested seem to good to be true, I mean I just saw an ad for a 06 Polaris touring with a 550, reverse, low miles, great shape the seller rated it a 9/10 due to some dings on the hood and they only want $2000 for it....

am I on crack or are some of these prices out of whack? Maybe I'm thinking sleds should cost more.. like I see a number of late 90's sleds and they're asking $2500-$3000 for them and it seems reasonable... then I see a bunch of 2003+ sleds for $2000-$2500 and it just seems well fishy...

Is it just me? Keep in mind these are supposidly Canadian Sleds and Canadian Prices.. I dunno... I think it's gonna be really hard to find a sled I want and not get screwed over in some scam...

Thoughts?

if its too good to be true it is, the guy in europe is most defiantley a scam...

There are many scams going on off road vehicles, I have no idea why. Maybe because people buy into it?

wait till mid january--the prices will be cheap--imo:beer;our dealer has 08 800 x 154's for $7000 and that price is a little high

Gold5th,
In case you haven't noticed, quite a few scams out there. Yeah if it's too good to be true, 99 out of 100 it's a scam nowadays. If you can't phone the person and talk to them, it's a scam (or an idiot selling something!).
Looks to me that sled prices are holding their own this year, little better than last year. ATV's around here are ridiculously high. Anything that isn't beat to he!! or 5000mi is $4-5k.
Don't buy something you can't see/start/maybe ride first. Bad idea to even look at just shipping a machine and buying sight unseen unless you have an extremely high confidence level in the seller.

Sled prices are really down right now because nobody has any money to spend. Good time to be a buyer, bad time to be a seller. But definitely be careful, so many scams these days I think I would stick to dealing locally (try Craigslist).

I'm trying buysell and kijiji or whatever, not sure how many people local use craigslist. good to know it's not just me though cause I'd say 25-35% of the sleds for sale that I've seen are too good to be true.

Like hte out of country guy it was listed in the Edmonton section, not the Calgary, so I thought maybe it was a local sled, so I e-mailed asking where the sled was located, what town/city.. he said "It is located in Canada at Das in Quebec (a shipping company working with eBay) and it's ready for shipping." right there I was suspicious... EBay and a shipping company, since when?

But yeah, I won't buy one I can't atleast hear/see run first.. I was kinda wondering maybe some people are just deperate and if it was worth even checking out all those too good to be true sled and see if they are true...
