What is the true HP number of the 2009 M8

Can some one tell the true Hp number on the 2009, has it changed from 2008? Just comparing numbers with Polaris and Ski-doo to decide witch sled to buy. Help needed....

since they are not releasing any numbers they will probably be the same as the 07-08. the motor is the same. not the highest hp number but by far the most reliable!!!

head and maybe some reeds should bump you up some. RKT makes a quality head for cats. I have one of there heads on an 800 efi, and I had to go down in mixture from stock on efi. I put a pipe(D&D) and some reeds to equal out the head. I do not know if you can do this with the laydown 800 but usually with an rkt you have to lean mixture a bit

Most M8s were dyno'd at 144hp. Don't waste the money on reeds - unnessesary. A pipe set (SLP) and a head will do wonders though.

cat guys at west this weekend said, same motor, so the 144 hp or so that everbody recorded in fall 06, nothing has changed.

When you mountain ride you need to look at the torque of the engine as well. The 800 cat motor has more torque compared to the other 800's. That is what you need at high alltitude.

The track on the new cat is 10 lbs lighter that the compitition. This will make up for any lost power. Although this is a new track we will se how it works next year.

It kind makes a guy wonder if he should go with the reliable 154HP dragon 800 just a thought..

Is that the same motor that keeps siezing the the MAG side? Made by the same company that couldn't build a crank to save their lives?

Don't forget that the 09 Cat 800 weighs close to 30lbs less than the Pol too.

yes i believe that is infact the motor he is talking about, i heard big changes for the cranks this year, instead if making them out of pot metal shavings and bubble gum, they are switching to pvc pipe and rubber bands. keep your eyes and ears peeled :D

How much torque?

Bushpilot-"When you mountain ride you need to look at the torque of the engine as well. The 800 cat motor has more torque compared to the other 800's. That is what you need at high alltitude."

What kind of torque numbers are the stock M8's putting out?

My 07 m8 will climb with my buddies dragon 8 all day long, and I haven't even started clutching it yet. The sleds are almost the same in power, weight, feel, ability, etc. Why would you only buy the sled with the most power? What about how your local dealer works? I would buy from a good dealer before I'd buy horsepower, you can always bump power later, but your stuck with the dealership. IMO

A thought...

Until the PRODUCTION sleds are out, no one knows the horsepower / torque numbers. Take delivery in the fall, dyno it, and we will all know when you post numbers. Irregardless of dyno numbers is how a sled WORKS on the snow - a good dealer or tuner can make a sled work well enough to keep up with brand X, unless it is a real turd. But the single most important factor in how a sled performs is the RIDER. Nuff said.
