What is the proper assembly of the throttle cable to throttle body on 800 cfi?

After getting the TPS adjusted to the proper specs and the throttle cable loosely assembled onto the throttle body, I'm a little puzzled on how tight you should adjust the throttle cable to the throttle body? The confusion comes in where I thought the idle is adjusted by the idle adjustment screw and getting .93 Vdc from the the TPS..... If I have the throttle cable too tight to the point of opening the throttle plates further, would that change the idle? I'm sure it would, or was the throttle cable tension to the throttle body designed be adjusted just flush or with a little play (if so how much play). Any help in understanding this would be appreciated.

Stan, with idle rpm adjusted right(1750 rpm) you want less then 1/32" freeplay between the throttle lever and the throttle block, right where the cable comes thru the block to the lever on the bars...if its too loose your throttle safeties wont work right, too tight and sled wont idle down...

Thanks Mike, I've got the service manual downloaded on the putor but didn't see any step by step reassembly. Will .93 Vdc give you 1750 rpm or does .93 Vdc get you in the ballpark then readjust the idle with the idle adjustment screw to 1750 after you got it back together?

it should be dead nuts..if not adjust the screw to get it there , then recheck your settings again just to be safe..but it should be good to go....did you build a tester? should have hollered..I have one...

I built one with radio shack components, but couldn't get the initial .70 so i just I had ERP dial it in. Thanks again Mike, big help!!!!!!:whoo:

yeah there stuff isnt quite the quality it was 20 yrs ago..I went thru about 4 Vr's before I found one right on the money....I took my fluke right in the store with me and told the guy, I have to have one at exactly 5.0 volts...he looked at me like I was nuts...but I waalked out with 2 right at 5.0 volts....
