What is the deal with the swap meet section???

It is full of pic collectors and dead beats. I had a sled up for sale which is since removed now. I had i don't even know how many people ask for pics of it emailed to them. I never had even one response saying thanks. What is up with people? If I asked someone for something I would at least return an email saying thanks.

Then don't even get me started about making a deal with a guy. I even agreed to drive about 350 miles from my house to help him out, cancelled plans to do it, got everything ready. Of course now I haven't heard from the guy in 3 days and wont return phone calls. If you don't want it anymore at least call and say so.

Im sorry to rant but it really pisses me off.

thats why you post the pics in the ad itself. then you dont have to deal with all the daydreamers who wish they could buy a new buggy. lesson=put pics in original post along with price and any info pertinent to the sled then you weed out that crowd. then hopefully your inbox will be receiving offers because the info is already in the post. i myself hate when people try to sell stuff with no pics and no info. if you want it sold it shouldnt be to much work to take a few minutes to include that stuff in your ad. i hope this will help you in the future.. trying to save yourself 2 minutes listing an add only costs you lots of grief later

How can you sell something if you don't have price, pics and location? You have to expect that people are going to ask you for that. If you were buying my sled would my description be enough?

Oh yeah.....THANK YOU

I had the location, description, as well as letting everyone know I can email them pics.

My biggest problem was the deadbeat that made a deal. I was gracious enough to meet him in Spokane which is 350 miles from my house. I cancelled other plans that I had and everything. Then low and behold he disappears and wont return phone calls for the last 3 days. That in my opinion is bulls&*t.

If your not interested in actually buying something don't bother responding to ads in the first place. If you change your mind at least have the decency to let the seller know.

I dont have a problem sending pics to anyone but at least let someone know you received them, its common courtesy.

Excellent suggestions. ^^^^^

I buy and sell dozens of snowmobiles a year for my rental fleet. Many times I will meet buyers part way driving up to 6 hours to make a deal. I ALWAYS require a deposit ($500 - $1000) in this scenario. I guarantee your potential buyer isn't going to leave you hanging if he has substantial money on the line. Any decent person will respect that request understanding that you are taking a risk by spending money on fuel and time to deliver.

Wow. This is really a sore spot with me too !!! $$$$ ---- IN this day and age ""PEOPLES WORD AINT WORTH S**T !!!!"" When a person says something they should follow through !!! >>>>.

It seems like the rules of common decency don't apply when buying and selling something.
Whether it's the buyer saying that there are no defects or that their item is in excellent condition when it is a disaster, or the buyer getting directions and never showing up.

I have often lamented the lack of honor with regards to selling transactions.

When everything thing else has been taken from you, you can still have character and your word. Money and fortune comes and goes, but once people see you as a lowlife in the integrity department, it takes a lifetime to change their minds.

Well I've got a good one for you. A guy comes to look at what I had for sale insults me on the quality then has the balls to tell me he would take it off of my hands for 33% less than the price we agreed he would buy my item for !! I told him to have a nice ride back home !!! >>>>.

I've had days like that that.

I've been on the other end also, when I came to look at something that had a cracked and split $600 hood that somehow didn't get disclosed, and I do a compression test on the engine, and one side is 125, and the other is 80, and I have the nerve to suggest that the value to me is less because of the defects.

My favorite line is when a machine is a disaster, and the seller says "oh, that's just cosmetic."

Cosmetics are everything to me. I clean every crack with a toothbrush, and if I get a scratch on something, I replace it.

I see sellers that don't even bother to wash a machine, and then they claim that they maintained it well.

Anyway, I'd love to restore honor to our system, rather than behave like selfish used car salesmen.

The swapmeet is not perfect by any means, suggestions for improving it are always welcome. We tried to address some of these concerns when the "Classifieds" section was created last year which REQUIRED location, price, condition, etc. The problem with it was that it is such a different format that many do not like it and preferred the 'old' system, so it was decided to keep it open and we have run both ever since.

The downside of the "swapmeet" section versus the "classifieds" section is that there is no way to require any certain information in order to post an ad, the software doesn't work that way.

One idea I can think of that might help would be to take all your suggestions and post an ANNOUNCEMENT in the swapmeet section with these helpful tips for a positive experience.

I agree with most of your post. I really, really think everything a seller knows about the machine needs to be disclosed upon sale. The buyer needs to do their part (you are a great example) and do compression tests and look it over carefully.

The one thing I don't agree with is that just because you don't wash a machine has nothing to do with how well it is maintained. Not washing a machine will do nothing for the way it performs. Running proper fuel and oil, servicing the chain case regularly summerizing and lubing the chassis does.

Ive had good luck with the swapmeet section

I bought a pipe from a guy great to deal with, and sold a sled. Snowest is like every other place on the planet, there are some good and bad. You gotta love that it even exists though it makes finding parts cheaper and easier than ever before. I'm old enough to remember the days of trying to sell a sled in the local newspaper was your only option. It really made the potential buyers a small population. Now you can find buyer 350 miles away. (of course theres a chance he's a deadbeat)
