what is the advantage of going to smaller drivers and increased pitch?

I ride in the deep mountain powder with my stock 05 rev 151 with the exception of a can and pro taper bars. I'm looking to make this sled more stupid deep prone am i on the right track with drivers? (no pun intended!)

It depends on what your trying to accomplish. Smaller drivers let you run a taller lug as long as you have adequate clearance elsewhere in the tunnel, but also make for a steeper approach angle and possibly more rolling resistance....there are tradeoffs to everything.
Also, some tracks only come in a 3" pitch so that's another reason to change drivers.
