What Is SKI-DOO Doing for us?

I bought a summit x 154 last fall and have had many problems, most of which have already been discussed here. Most of the problems I had are due to poor manufacturing and quality control before I got my sled. I have spent all last winter thinking about why my NEW sled wasn't performing to my expectations and trouble shooting the clutching. I should have spent $3500 on a BB kit for the old edge. I'm happy with the Electric start, riding position, light weight and handling but thats about all that I'm really happy about. Everything else seems like a dissapointment.

The point of my rant is what is Ski-doo going to do for the 2008 xp owners? Has any one heard about any recalls? The 3 dealers in my area all told me that there isn't any thing they can do for me. On Doo talk there are some threads about how the sales man has assured people they know about the problems on 08 summits and are going to fix them for 09 and that kind of pisses me off. All winter the dealers have been saying there's nothing wrong with your sled "just drive it the way it is" or "the salesmans sled runs just fine" If they know about the problems shouldn't they fix them? I Know what to do to fix it but it will cost around $2000 and I already spent $15000 on the pos. I shouldn't have to buy new clutches, braces, intake parts and suspension parts for a new sled because BRP cheaped out on thier suppliers.

they are going to charge you another 15000 dollars for the 09 your going to buy and tell you the same sob story about the probs with the 09's as the 08's. dont' feel alone though, all 4 manufacturers have done or are doing this.

eh buddy would you like some cheese with that wine?....... no but seriously imo doo did have some screw ups thats for sure but we could get into polaris and there crank issues that polaris backed away from for what 7 years...

I've had the bushing replaced twice on the primary clutch under warranty(1200 kms) Ive changed the pin weights several times trying to find something that will work better because the rpms are completely inconsistent. Wot and rpm at 8200 slack off and wot again and your at 8450 on the rev limiter hold it there and the rpm drop off to 7400 over 1/4 mile. Ive talked to a few different mechanics and the consensus is that the clutches have been inconsistent since 2006 when brp switched clutch manufactures to save some money. If you are lucky some of the new primary clutches work fine just like their designed to, but some of the primary clutches do not fit together right and thats why the rpm are not consistent and they blow bushings. This problem is compounded by the motor mounts not being straight and the clutches not lining up causing heat. The dealer has sold 10 of the 2006 primary clutches and say that everyone who has put the old style primary clutch has been happy and say that it cures the problem with inconsistent rpm. It costs $600 for the 2006 bare clutch and warrenty will only fix the 2008 clutch. The mechanic said he puts new bushings in the xps every day and i'm lucky compared to some other guys. I burned thru 5 166 belts in 600 km they warrantied the belts but I had to go to the mountains with 2 spare ones at $150 each just to make it thru the weekend. The clutching fix was a new belt that is tougher but doesn't fix the problem.
Some of the drive shafts are made with poor metal and they say they know which sleds have the poor ones but BRP thinks we should drive it till it breaks then they will replace it. I have a spare drive shaft in the shop cause the dealer said I should have one just in case it piles up somewhere I cant tow it out of.
I want to replace the secondary just because I don't like it. I think the team is a far better clutch works better on flat ground in deep snow and just as good in the hills imo.
The airbox needs holes cut in it so it dosn't bog in loose snow.
The rear suspension sags low sometimes sometimes it dosn't.
Ive owned 7 sleds in the last 10 years and all of them had more consistent clutching than my new xp even the 95 wildcat had better clutches. I spent an afternoon on the phone with a guy in the warrenty dept in Quebec and told him my whiny *****y story and he recognized my problems and said they are aware of the problems and there would be some support to the dealers soon in the form of recalls, that was in february.

They know of the problems but won't help you out. If you want help you'll have to buy an '09 as they "addressed" the issues.

Just stop riding. Do you enjoy the sport or enjoy *****ing about you sled? Be happy you did not buy an 07 with REAL clutch problems. No sled will ever be perfect. The more you know about sleds the more that is not perfect with the one you ride.

Download this weeks pics of the week and tell me that this is not why you ride.

The alignment should be fixed under warranty. The Doo primary rollers are junk, replace with aftermarket (cheaper and durable), have the primary balanced (about $40). Get the '07 ramps, 160/320 spring, 44/33 helix and load up the primary with weight for your altitude. Gear down a bit if you still have excessive heat. Put in the updated driveshaft so you don't hva eproblems. :beer;

I had the POS 07 Doo so know your pain. Did everyone miss the reports of issues with the XP proto's or did you just accept the word of BRP that they were fixed. I assume that most saw the long letter from Doo on DooTalk about how for the most part they anticipated all the proto issues & that they would be fixed on 08 production sleds.
Now BRP has promised to fix the known issues for 09, is that credible based on the last 2 years promises? Over & over you see the justification that "all sleds have issues", or comparisons to older brands. The real problem is that BRP has no quality control and are slow or fail to respond to serious issues. Or maybe some don't consider crank failures, Drive shafts & Junk clutches serious!

I have all the same problems as you and would really like to see them be rectified by Doo but am pretty sure I can forget about it. Also I still have not received my rebate. I am really pissed to say the least.

Maybe Doo wil include a econo size jar of vaseline so it don't hurt too much when they give it to us in the azzz when it comes tio their pricing on the '09's here in Canada. Nothing like Effing over your fellow countrymen. Oh wait a sec Quebec regards themselves as their own country right??

The 09 parts are not in yet but my dealer has my sled and said he is going to replace shaft and clutches with 09 parts. He also told me he is calling everyone that bought an 08 and doing the same.

Don't be expecting anything!!
Let me refresh everyones memory. I know it's unnecessary.

2005 RT 1000... BRP finally got them to run right in 2007
2007 XRS... Give you an extra year warranty on the motor
2008 XP... We'll see but don't expect much if anything
