It appears that my o2 numbers are in the range. But down the trail I get egts around 1350+. Is this normal? I add fuel to get egt's under 1300 and it does not run clean. The egt's just continue to rise at part throttel.
cats have always had alot of ignition advance at mid/part throttle, really no good way to cure it. Most people just try to pump the throttle and drive around/through the hot spot.
Back in the old firecat days (when they were just released) Greg Spaulding said it was normal to see high EGT temps while cruising (with NO load on the stock motor.) Keep the mid range throttle busy or just run it blind. On a stock motor, I wouldn't worry about EGTs, just run it and enjoy it.
who makes the gauge and how close to the jug are the probs. The only way to really know is to run it at that temp for a while then hit the kill switch. when stopped pull the plugs and see. On that sled I would burp the throttle in the 58-7200 rpm range to keep them down. It may run but with a turbo and hot pistons they will swell and four corner seize if it gets to hot. Mine did it stock at 1260 temps. But from my readings the sled ran 1260 at 6100 rpm and 1151 wot on a stock 09 m1000.( all egts read different) But on my 07 with same egts I hit right at 1300 once and four cornered a piston. With mods on the 09 it climbs past 1200 on the trail and I start burping the throttle.
