I purchased a 2009 Dragon 800 today w/ 800 mi. On it. Boosted since 100mi.

BD RG TURBO w/ full size fan cooled IC.

Running Sunoco 112 straight. Redline syn oil.

The Y pipe looks to have some minor deposits like the front of the pipe, but the tail of the pipe at the turbo flange has these huge flaking corrosion. Looks like steel that has been exposed to salt water for 20 years. Some of the flakes can be pried off and others cant be scraped off. Obviously some of them have dislodged and damaged the hot side of the turbo.

What could this be, fuel or oil?

I will post pic when I get home.

Thx
Toby

I'm guessing these flakes are probably from the lead that is in the race gas. . . ?

I had a lot of flaking in my M8T exhaust that I figure is from the lead in the race gas. Mine was run on 100LL and straight sunoco 110. When I took it apart this summer, I blew it all out easily with an air compressor. I cant see the flakes that were coming out of my exhaust causing that kind of turbine damage, but I am by no means an expert.

I am running a very similar set up on my D8, straight VP C111. From what i have herd the higher octane fuels absorb/attract alot more oxygen than pump fuel, causing the walls of exhaust to oxidize(hope thats the right word) and rust. From what i'm told this is normal when running these fuels.
Hopefully someone can share some technical facts about this.
