What is a M-series

Hi - I am trying to understand the arctic cat nomenclature. I have looked at the Arctic Cat website and don't see any reference to M-series. I am most interested in the 500cc engine. It appears that there are two basic types, the standard and the "lay-down" with the intake and exhaust on the same side. How do these engines fit into the M-series ?
Thanks

M is for the mountain sleds. Very few have been sold with the 500 cc engine, but that would be the M5. It would be a lay down engine with ex and int on the front side.

Sounds like you are looking for a trail sled though.

the m series would encompass all the "m" type sleds built from 05-current. meaning m5, m6, m7, m8, m1000. also included in this would be the crossfire sleds built from 05-current. the crossfire is based on the m chassis as well.

to the best of my knowledge all m-series sleds have always had a laydown motor.

don't get confused by the 1M sleds (02-06???) though that are still loosely based on the zr chassis.

The M-Series is equivalent to the RMK (Rocky Mountain King) from Polaris, or the Summit from Ski-Doo. All mountain sleds.

What is M-series

OK - I understand that the "M" is for mountain. I am looking for arctic cat sleds that would have the 500CC engine, either M-series or ?
What is the correct terminology for the 500CC laydown and the standard 500CC engine. Also what 500cc engines have the fuel injection ?
If I were to look on e-bay for a Arctic Cat 500 engine, what year and what type/name would I be looking for ?
Thanks

This data is a couple years old and I'm fiarly new to Cats but............................

The M5 lay down motor does NOT have power valves and makes roughly 80 hp.

The F5 motor does have power valves and makes roughly 105 hp

As far as I know they were both fuel injected after 2006.

The 500's were done being manufactured in 2006 i believe. All M series are lay down and most are fuel injection. You can find them carbed but I would advise against them. You're next closest bet to M5 is the M6 which comes fuel injected. I'm not really sure what your price range is or how old or new you want but the crossfire series are best for all around riding. M series are good on the trail too but they're really built for deep snow and climbing hills.
I'm not positive of the exact terminology for a laydown engine but as far as I know, the last five years have all been the same, laydown.
