What if????

What if grooming in Utah stopped as we now know it?

What if registrations were to increase?

What if property tax on OHV's were to dissapear?

What if there was finally a way for non-motorized users to pay into the system to keep trails open, groomed, or maintained?

Stay tuned.....

You mean grooming got better?
You mean more people registered sleds
There is no property tax on OHVs... it's age based fees
If non-motorized users start paying they will start closing more areas

All of those things scream "more bureaucracy"

What if there was a way to stop the free-loading, leaf-licking, timber tramp x-country skiers from poaching the trail I leave with my state-registered, sound-monitored, emission-regulated snowmobile, then having them give me 'the finger' when I return.........:face-icon-small-dis

What if grooming stoppped period....

registrations are at a 10 year low...

ok so the aged based fees were to go away....

what this screams is a budget that will be cut by 50%, or how about a budget that within 3 years will be cut by 75% from the standard of two years ago, no bureaucracy, no one left in the office......

how much more for a registration would you be willing to pay if the aged based fee went away?

would you be willing to sit in a groomer for 10 hrs straight once a month?

everything and I mean everything is on the table, open to any suggestions for trails to become maintained in summer or winter and that everyone that uses them helps pay thier fair share...

What if we snowmobilers finally learned and implemented some of the same tactics that the environmentalists use?

I'd sit in a groomer more than once a month gladly... heck, 15 years ago I tried to get the state to figure out a volunteer groomer program but they didn't want anything to do with it even though other states had been doing it for years.

I'll keep the current registration and age based fees... I ride old machines. :)

I think the original posters point was that snowmobilers pay for a lot of services that x-country skiers and other users benefit from yet still they want to ban snowmobilers from the land :face-icon-small-dis.

I think most snowmobile owners are intelligent enough to put two and two together, so wouldn't this have been more relevant if it were placed on a cross country ski forum?

That's why I ride Fairview, Trails suck even if they are groomed! Drive to the top of the mountain and then unload.
But on a serious note. Age based registration would be AWESOME !!

Seems like a whole lot of "what ifs". I'm on board, and always have been for turning the tables on the "tree huggers"! Base-less lawsuits, donations to crooked politicians, whining, all out lies, whatever it takes. I don't see it happening, nor do I ever expect these maggots of society to pay their "fair share". They can't afford it, after all the funding to their worthless attorneys!! As for grooming...I don't care much for trails either..but If I have to sit my but in a groomer for 1 or more days a month to get things in sledders favor.....then count me in!
.....I'll be staying tuned....just hope it's good news!

I'd sit in a groomer one day month. Not that I ride trails but they are sure nice after a hard day of riding to get back to the truck and not get the crap beaten out of you on 5 miles...

Doug

Is the state cutting Fred's budget?
Are they shutting down Fred's office?
Is the legislature trying to steal the atv/snowmobile registration money for schools?
Who is going to pay to clear the parking lots?
What is going to happen with the sled gas tax money?
Do we need to start calling our legislators?

I am willing to run a groomer, I talked to Fred about running a groomer a few years ago on some of the less groomed area, he was not open to idea.

question

1. Yes in the next 4 years by up to 50% from the general fund, stay tuned.
2. NO, not yet.
3. NO, not yet.
4. To be determined as budgets start getting cut
5. Still goes to UDOT, be we only get a small part of what we are putting in. From the federal OHV trails funding, it expires this year unless congress re appropriates moneys.
6. Not yet.

After the legislature gets out for the year we are going to hit this pretty heavy with a think tank and start to formulate solutions....from all user groups.

stay tuned....and thank your local TEA PARTY group :)

I am hearing that there has been no grooming this year in the Monte Cristo area, We usually ride the other way so I have not noticed. Has anyone heard why? We still pay 5.00 to park in the parking lot, so not really sure where that money goes.

Your $5 is for maintaining the parking lot, not grooming.

On a side note, Doug, there are lots of ways to go about running the sledding programs in a state... just look across the snowbelt in the US and Canada for a myriad of options.

But they almost all require the state officials to give up some of their control and pass it to the using public and their groups (clubs). Good luck in getting the control freaks in this state to ever do that until you file a lawsuit.
