What I heard re: Blind Bull/Horse Creek area

I hear that the groomer may try to groom tonight but isn't sure he'll make it, they have rec. so much snow. They are trying to dig out of the Box Y, where he lives. Also that the area is extremely dangerous right now. They have had extreme winds all week, etc. I don't know if they are seeing a lot of natural slides or what, but kind of sounds like it?
I haven't been up there, so I can't say first hand. Just be careful! I know of a group that cancelled a ride to this area this weekend because it's so dangerous... More snow through Sunday coming, sounds like quite a bit Saturday.
If anyone has been up there this week, how was it?

Not trying to be a jerk but why the hell would you cancel a ride because the snow conditions are too dangerous. That makes no sense. There is SO much area up there that is not dangerous and it is really good stuff to ride in. You don't HAVE to climb big or (little hills for that matter) to have a great time on a sled. I have ridden in some crazy dangerous areas and been perfectly fine. I stayed away from the slopes. Again, use your head and go ride!

Just what I was told... Just hope people pay attention. Have a feeling we will hear some tragic story this weekend somewhere.
We are riding the Upper Green Sat and somewhere? Sun.

Just a note/thought. I have been in Big Piney area where someone triggered a slide right off the trail a few mins before we got there. It went right to the trail. Also, McDougal Pass, which I would not go near now, has slid clear across the trail and up the other side.
Some areas you have to watch even when on the trail. But yes, stay off the hills, have fun in trees etc.
I'm not the best rider and when the trail hasn't been groomed yet in the season, after a huge storm, I couldn't make it to the warming hut. The guys were exhausted digging everyone out. I don't think I was the only one that couldn't make it.
For some, it's better to not go to a certain area sometimes...
I think the groomer was just trying to warn everyone. There was a sledder caught up there a few weeks ago in an avalanche, he made it out luckily.

It's bad out here. Star Valley is anyhow can only imagine blindbull is same. Was out thursday and there were natural avys everywhere. Had one get a guy yesterday but they got him out with no time to spare. Coughing blood. He was just trying to get up the trail and it came down in the trees. It's stupid to be out in those areas right now. We didn't go today cause it's so deep and dangerous. BE CAREFULL

IC, again I wasn't being a jerk. I'm glad you guys are thinking about the conditions. when I think Blind Bull I think of going straight left of the warming hutt. Those hills are like a playground and are very (not steep). Thats where I would play. There are other areas that could be trouble around there. I just get frustrated when groups don't go out if the conditions are not perfect. I ride no matter what. Blinding snow or 60 degrees. The conditions dictate where I ride. Last year we rode in several areas out there where avi's were covering the trail. We just got through the trail as quick as possible and stayed off the slopes. I have been to Cooke where no hill was safe. In that case we went to Top and had a blast.

I am glad the mountains are finally getting decent snow. Can't wait for the 4th of Feb!!!!

Stay safe and ride.

don t get to excited about the trees know of a guy that got buried just siting on the trail and the hill isnt steep but it is very tree covered and it slid and he almost died out of the deal

This was posted on the Colorado page.
We saw several slides this weekend and a couple on the trail like this.
Be safe!

Was up @ blind bull thurs last and if you were not on a newer sled or not a very good rider you had no business being there , even on the trail. never saw any slides, but we stayed off anything that could slide. It was a workout just getting to the warming hut.................. I heard by Sat it was about twice as deep as Thurs.....

We went to the Upper Green Saturday and Sunday, everyone is worn out from being stuck and digging out all weekend. It was fun though and beautiful. There just isn't any base at all.
I posted pictures on our facebook page....

I rode the blind bull area satureday and sunday. First time that i have ever seen it this deep. Saturday we made it 30 miles in 7 hourish. We rode 26 miles on sunday which was a better day for riding. Snow is crazy and we watch two slides saturday. But still alot of places to go and not have to worry about the snow slinding. Its not all just hillclimbing. The medows are crazy deep. The creek bottoms will eat up a sled. watched it happen both days. But like anything you goto use your brain when your out there. Today is monday and looks to be snowing still up there. This weekend should be another great powder ride. Good luck and be safe
