looking to get a handheld gps. What kind is everyone useing? Anything I should know before buying one?

I use the Garmin Rino 655t. Very nice to have the built in topo basemap, but I also have the 24k topo maps and the birdseye satellite imagery on it. Very cool little GPS, a worthy upgrade from my Rino 530HCx.

Garmin 76CS. Large screen, lots of memory space, and it floats. Great for the sled, ATV, and fishing.

Garmin 62s for me

I downloaded topo maps from the internet and make my own custom snowmobile trail maps using google earth for my riding areas. I don't use my gps often, but want to have a decent set up in case I ever need it in an emergency. With the trail maps on there it makes it almost fool proof. Look at the colored line on the screen - that is the trail - drive towards it.

Garmin dakota 20. Small, lightweight, battery or sled power, electric compass, inexpensive and works well with Google earth.

I just bought a Garmin etrex 20 for a $150. I didn't want a touch screen (suck in sunlight) but I wanted the birds eye ability. The only problem I have with it so far is the screen is maybe a little small.

Rino 650. ...birdseye imagery from google maps is AWESOME!!. . .5 watt handheld radio. ..polling capability to find your buddies with rinos. .A+

Rino

i bought the Garmin Rino 655T this season and love it. Radio works great, touch screen works great even in the cold and the GPS works fast and accurate.

I use the garmin colorado 300, it is a few years old now, but you can still buy them new. very "glove" friendly , it has 3d mapping, you can literally get the same exact maps as google maps and google earth, full color satellite images. there is also a colorado 400 that is one step up. plus you can put a sd card in it and save huge areas of satellite maps right to your gps.

hand held gps

i use the garmin oregon 550t. works awesome never any issues with touch screen. never leave trailer without it on and tracking. also works great in sunlight

Sorry for the hijack, but you might find this useful.
I have the Rino 530.love the radio and buddy finder.
. Problem is I haven't figured out how to really use it yet.(maps)
from what I understand you have to use the garmin maps??
anyone know of any options?? if so what maps are best for sledding and off road mountain activities?
