i am new to the snowbike scene this year and am curious to what gear you wear...mainly boots. im trying to decide whats the best option for boots?

and also does anyone run those hand mits that go around the bars? wondered how well they work as i wont have grip heaters...maybe one or two cold rides will change my mind on that.

I used to wear my White's Pac's (the same boots I wore sledding) but the kick starter was wearing a hole in them. I now run a pair of Klim Adrenaline's. I'm really happy with how stiff they are and they still allow me to find the shifter without a problem. There not bulky and have a good profile for snowbiking. Plus they keep my feet pretty warm.

As far as the handle bar mits, a couple of the guys I ride with have them and some don't, including myself. I have found that it depends more on the rider, if you always ran the grip heaters on your sled you should seriously look into them. If you rarely run heaters on a sled just throw some hand warmers in your pack and don't worry bout it.

x3 on Klim Adrenalin. Best boots I've ever owned for the snow. Dry feet, my ankles feel nice and supported, and my feet don't hurt after a full day of riding.

My buddy has a KTM with the handlebar bags and he really likes them. I think they look stupid so I just ride with 2 extra pairs of gloves in my bag. No grip warmers (yet), but last year I had no problems with cold hands. When your gloves get wet just swap em out for a dry pair from the pack. Never had cold hands once I started keeping them bone dry.

I just pulled the trigger on a 2013 kit as well and as a newb I have a bunch of questions but for now what about pants, my KTM is melting a hole in my Klim dirt bike pants inside my right knee I'm thinking the Klim snow versions aren't going to fair to well. Any thoughts? Pipe guard?

I bought a pair of the motofist boots. They offer a ton of support and are supposed to be very warm. We'll see.....

Last year a bunch of guys I ride with started to wrap their exhausts and had good luck with it. The original intent was to help trap heat and to also prevent the immediate cooling of the pipe when the bike gets tipped over. The issue we thought would eventually arise is the rapid cooling/heating of the pipe would cause the metal to become brittle and possibly end up cracking/breaking deep in the backcountry.

One of the bonuses of the wrap was the protection of your pant leg. I was also brainstorming the idea of having a fireproof pad or something like that sewn into the outside of the pant leg.

I used the 1 inch wide heder wrap and was able to wrap it on the bike, I safty wired as I went around,, make shure you soak the wrap in water first it wraps tighter if you do!I am using the Klim adrenelen boots and regular klim bibs, but will be wearing a Tech Vest and a large pullover of some sort? Im more concerned about keeping my gloves dry, or having gloves that dont get wet! i tried the motorfist gloves last season,,, while they did stay dry,, my hands were always cold!had the klims the year before but were to bulky and couldnt feel the bars!mabe the motorfists would work with gauntlets on the bars!

I wear snowboarding boots. No winter boot is going to hold up to a dirt bike. At least with snowboard boots you can buy them cheap (under $100 on clearanc
e), wear them for a year out two and toss them. Saw a few guys trash klims in one season, I would hate to spend $300+ on boots every season.

For pants, I just have a leather patch sewn on the inside of each leg to avoid burning and help with wear from the frame. It works great, and is cheap.

My mh dealer told me about the mountain addiction gear. It's not on their website yet, but evidently they are making a snow bike pant, similar to klim, but with a leather patch on the leg, and double stitched, or layered butt? For better wear on the gripper seats. I haven't seen them yet, but really thinking about it cause melting a three hundred dollar pair of pants would piss me off!
