I run straight av. the av gas picked up at the airport has to adhere to strict policies and regular testing. I always get told what the octane level is at time of purchase and usually around 104. many times its higher. with race fuel you have to trust who your buying from as there is no strict testing structure after it leaves the producer and if its been sitting for a while your 110 octane may not be actually 110. also many companies like vp for example call there fuel c12 or 111 but its just a name and not there actual claimed octane. not against race fuel at all I just think its important to know.
I'm running Trick 110 straight 2,500'-9,000'. I know there is a lot of people that run "Av gas" which I assume you are referring to LL. I was told by my fuel guy this this is not good fuel to run through a 2 stroke that runs at high RPM. The fuel is designed for a lower RPM airplane engine and isn't designed for the constant throttle chopping that you do while riding a sled. I get the Trick 110 for $7.50 a gallon.
The Av gas burns hotter than your typical race fuels which in theory is going to wear the engine out sooner. As for the gas sitting a long time being there isn't the additives in race gas as pump gas the stuff has an amazing long shelf life.

I was just researching an article, and Both Boondocker's Jared Sessions and TSS Brandon Micku absolutely love Av gas.
1. Very very high standards must be maintained because of the aviation application
2. Jared told me independent testing put Av Gas around 104
3. It's super available, and has a good shelf life.
