what fuel are you running for your turbo

I boosted my nytro and I am wondering what fuel people are using. I am using VP C 12 AND C 10. I am not mixing it with pump gas just straight no head shim 16# boost.. I also was told by torco that they have an product called accelerator that you just mix with pump gas and 1 quart with 120 gallons gets you 107 octane? anyone know... Thanks
 
What are your air/fuel ratios with out the head shim at 16 lbs? Mine were off the charts 13.5-15. I run 2 gallons of 100 octane sunoco unleaded-to help out the o2 sensor, per tank.

I think you got your ratio off a little on that Torco Accelerator. One quart to 5 gal of 93 octane will give you 107 octane. We only have 91 and can get 105 with this mix, Ken.
 
you are pushing your luck at 16lbs without a head shim on c12 you should run c16. Cheep insurance j1mo
 
I had the priviledge of riding a Ntro with the IMPULSE turbo with a head shim.

The bottom end power was absolutley fantastic, I would not risk not having a head shim running 16lbs even if I was using good fuel.

From everything I have learned you are pushing it to go over 14lbs without a head shim and most people at least on the APEX go without the head shim in order to maintain bottom end.

The Nitro has so much bottom end even wioth the head shim and then you are able to run high boost without as many concerns.

Just some thoughts.
 
If you are running boost you need to retork the head first, so might as will put the head shim in while you are there. if you don,t retork first you will most likely have a head gasket problem soon.
 
I run av gas with a head shim, in Alaska I could be down near sea level one day in Valdez or riding summit lake at 6000 the next. I think it is cheap insurance, AV gas is easy to obtain and not much more than premium.
 
I wont even consider putting in a head shim at 10,000'. Not going to happen. Nobody knows the exact octane requirement for your elevation, but at my elevation I would still run the good stuff with that kind of boost. JMO.
We are running 12lbs with Avgas, its crazy how the fuel requirements compound with just a little boost.
 
Ken how is the torco working for you I have 5 gal. I haven,t used it yet but I am getting ready to try it.

I bought 5 gal of it too. I haven't given it a real word test yet but have run a full day at 17# and this last weekend at a snow drag at 20#. I've got 10-1 Wisecos in it so I hope I'm safe at 105 octane. How much does 5 gal cost down there in Col. ?

You are right about the ratio 5 gal 93 octane 1 qt accel = 107...thats what the dealer orig told me but he latter told me he was wrong...

so fyi this is my first 4 stroke turbo
I am just going off of what boondocker told me was safe
I was told by them several times beacuse I wanted the head shim that if you ran straight 107 octane you can run up to 20# of boost I think they are pushing it but they said they have been doing this with no failure ??

So I am trying to be safe so any input is great

The 02 cesor is between 11.5 and 12.5 somethimes it spikes to 15.0 they tell me to tune it by ear and go off the 02 cens but as a guide..

I am going to turn her down to 14# as a safe gaurd... Your thoughts.. Thanks.
 
Even with the proper A/F ratio (I like to be around 12.5) you can have detonation. You have to match the octane with your compression + boost.

Can anyone match the stock comp with 16# of boost for me and tell me what the octane # should be I ride at 3 thou too 5 thou ..Thanks.

I was allso told if you run this 107 octane as long as you dont go to lean pass 13.0 on the 0 2 cens it will not detonate ??.............TRUE OR FALSE...

I don't know the octane numbers for your Nytro but the second question is definitely FALSE.
