What does the pipe sensor do?

My 1000 threw a code 17. The pipe senor.Thinking of doing the 470 ohm resistor bypass. Does the senor only do the one function & tell the ecu when the motor warm, so the ecu can then lean out the fuel? Or are there any other functions this sensor does.

Check the wires after the connector by zip tie to frame. Mine was throwing that code 17 and one of the wires was cut. :face-icon-small-hap

Same issue here. Last weekend I started getting code 17 on my M1k but it wasn't constant, it would come on and then go off. I checked it out when I got home and the insulation on one of the wires was worn through and must have been grounding out. It sounds like having a sensor go bad is rare.

My 2009 M 1000 was showing ECU 1 then also flash ECU 17
Checked the pipe probe for resistance on the bench with BIC lighter and ohm meter. When sensor was to hot to touch [very hot] ohm reading was only 270 .
Did re install sensor to re test to make sure I was chasing the right problem.
Rode sled for the day with ECU code 1 and 17 flashing all day.
Did the 470 ohm resistor install and installed. Codes are gone and sled worked VERY well for the last 3 days of deep powder riding. [ was in BC Feb 13-18 ]
May not get Cat probe and just run this resistor. I will just make sure engine coolant temp is hot and ride .

The resistor fix worked for me too. I started throwing the ECU 17 code this past trip. I had to add fuel to my Boondocker settings on day 3 of this trip after I put the resistor in. Apparently I had been tuning for the previous 2 trips with a bad pipe temp sensor which caused the computer to make it richer in the midrange & low end. I would have easily burned down with my current settings since I saw an EGT of 1350 at a point that used to be 1225 the day before installing the resistor.

I've never gone through a single temp sensor until this year and now I have gone through 2. They have been warrantied (90 day product warranty), but that still didn't fix the fact that my sled ran like crap until a new one was sent to me.
I put the 470 ohm resistor in and it fixed everything. The resistor was .25. Thank you!

to rich

if it isi throwing a code it well run rich so if you have a fuel contr it well mes with your settings.it well do the same for the water temp issue that people are having with the turbos that y u put in a switch for that fix.it well make it more likly to run to lean if you bypass it.the 1000 motor has a bigger watr pump and it can run to cold and to lean = cold seize
