what does it take to make a 2010 polaris 800 reliable?

i'm looking for my next sled, and really want an 800, and i found a minty looking 2010 rmk 800 144 with the mtntk fix kit that with the wiseco pistons. it does not have a power commander on it but, i would put one on it before riding it this winter. my question is: with the fix kit and power commander would this sled be fairly reliable?

Run fresh premium fuel non ethanol if possible. Warm up motor to 105 before taking off of a ride. Keep up with the top end parts fix it kit and wiseco's will not last for ever. Inspect the primary clutch a tired unit is hard on the crank rebuild or replace if needed doesn't hurt to have it balanced. Keep a good belt on it don't run it until it blows also hard on crank. Fog the motor end of season.

Don`t go with IQ. Pro Ride is the one.

There is nothing wrong with an IQ, they are a great sled for a young guy like you to start with. The fix kit already being in there is a good start. Have you read through the "Increase your IQ" sticky already? It is full of basic things to look for and do to help make your sled even better. I've riden Pro's and yes, they are a big step up in handling but even that has not been enough for me to make the jump. I still love my 700 IQ RMK and it doesn't cost me a new engine or $$$ to maintain like a Pro 800. For your Power Commander, I'd suggest getting it from DynoTech Jim (Google him for contact info), he will ask you for information on the existing sleds upgrades and where you ride. He will pre-program it so it is just a plug and play thing for you.

if i could afford a pro i'd get one, but don't have alot of money to spend, the pro's are way more than a iq around here.

Sorry to hear it man. You can buy some ancient sled like 96 XLT, and sell it next year for the same money. Then you have another year to collect money for Pro Ride. As well, they`ll be cheaper next year too.

my friend ran a 2008dragon for 4 yrs the last 2 with a mtn tech fix kit and a power commander it ran great with no problems after the kit was installed. :face-icon-small-hap

that makes me feel a little better about getting it lol, do you have an idea how many miles he had on it? this one has 2500 miles on the chassis and 500 miles since the fix kit.

IQ

I have a 2010 800 155 dragon & have never had one problem with it. The last time I had it at the dealer to put in new vforce reeds, they checked the pistons(stock pistons) and they were perfect. I looked at the vforce reeds that I replaced & only 1 of the reed petals had a slight nick on the bottom corner, other than that the reeds were perfect. Also, both my clutches are balanced, I run aksnowrider clutching & I have never added oil to my fuel. My motor is also completely stock other than reeds, no power commander or anything like that. I don't fog my motor either, I run it once a month when the season is over.
