What do you tip your guide?

I would say around $30-$50 per person. Maybe more if they find you good snow or dig you out a lot.

The usual amount in the hunting industry is 10% of the hunt cost. But that is dependant on how well the guide treated you, if they identified the skill level of the riders and took them in areas that they had fun. It's based on your overall experience with your guide. I've used snowmibile guides a few times in Wyoming and B.C. and every time it was well worth it and I had a great time with every guide, so I tipped them a little on the generous side, and it's come back to benefit me with more great rides with them.

Hired a guide first time in Chic Chocs (Canada) Cost was $50 per day each, he was a young kid. had him two days and there was 4 of us. I tipped him $100 and it was worth every penny. he appreciated it, came back to the room with us and had dinner, and still talk to him when we return.

A good guide works his azz off for the mediocre riders like myself digging us out. For the really good riders, just the knowledge of where the good stuff is would be worth it in my opinion.

Guess it all depends on how you hit it off with your guide. this guy would take us to different spots through out the day, and continuously help one of the four dig out. he never complained at all.

Would you still tip that way if you were paying 150.00 per person?

Thats the price Ive been seeing on a few sites ive looked at. There is also no reduction in price for more people. 4 guys = 600.00 a day, 8 guys = 1200

I havent seen anything in the 50.00 range. Eric

I couldn't ever see paying that kind of money for a guide. Y not find a local at the parking lot or on here and flip him some cash.

$50/head for a group of four wouldn't be worth working for. That is $200 for a long day of digging guys out? Who does that for only $200 a day? I wouldn't.

That would seem way too low to get any kind of quality guiding. The local in the parking lot might show you some goods for a lot less. Chancy though compared to hiring someone from an actual guide service.

$25 a day per person minimum !! ( for a day of riding )

"Would you still tip that way if you were paying 150.00 per person?" YES ! Most will hire a guide for part of their trip and use the new found knowledge themselves. The terrain and riding pointers etc etc

Don't get caught..And most places it's illegal they can seize your Shyt! Truck, trailer, sleds etc.

"Yeah a buck fifty per person per day seems like a lot to me. I wouldn't pay that much either. "
How much of that actually goes to the guide? Most are employees hourly paid..

Just like your favorite restaurant ( which automatically adds 18%+ for 6 or more )

It's a gig in a service industry just like ski instructors etc...most of these guys do it for the love of sledding and got to make a living just like you and I .
Would it make a difference if your guide was $10~12 an hour for a group of six ( herding cats/cleaning the litter box comes to mind ) Who does that for only $200 a day? Most "destination " guides average less and really depend on tips.:face-icon-small-sho
