I made my son a trailer hitch for towing his new boat but it ended up coming apart and the boat passed me on the freeway when testing it, because it had broken lose.
I did a little research and this is what i found http://www.hitchanything.com/Reese-30K-Low-Profile-Fifth-Wheel-Hitch-30054.html sounds good and looks safer , but I am not sure if I can use this 5th Wheel Hitch for towing my son's boat? Has anyone tried this?

Never heard of using a fifth wheel hitch for a boat but sure would love to see video of his boat passing you on the freeway.

30,000 LB HITCH??

Good Grief how much does his boat weigh?
If you need a 30,000 hitch for the boat what the heck are you doing towing it with a pickup?

That seems like not just a little but a hell of alot of overkill.

No doubt... The only boats I've seen that use a 5th wheel hitch set-up are way more than a pick-up truck can handle.

I mean no disrespect, but if you have to come on here and ask for advise. You likely have no business trying to build the original trailer hitch. You seem to lack both the skill and the mental aptitude to design and construct a proper functional hitch that will handle whatever loads it will need to withstand. You should have spent a few dollars and bought one from a company that has the insurance and bonds to cover any incidents arising from manufacturing defects (such as the one in the link). It is due to well intentioned people like you that cause deaths on the highways as well as driving our and your own insurance rates up.

As I only had a small slice of the story, if I'm off base my apologies but from your OP that is my opinion. With more information or a few pics of the intended tow vehicle and boat, we could be much more helpful.

Yeah, you didn't even really provide information to get help. What is the truck, what is the boat, where are you going, pics?, what materials, yada yada yada...

I would love to see video as well!
