What do you sacrifice in order to ride?

my sanity, because there is only snow for a quarter of the year and the rest of it i still think about snowmobiling, work on my sleds, and spend all my money on it..

I bust my *** all summer long working 65-70 hours per week away from home

I saw my wife and kids twice in 100 days this summer, I was fighting fire, I haven't water skiied in 6 or 7 years, I've worked every 4th of july for the last 9 years. I make these sacrifices to take care of my family , so I can play in the winter some.

Hmmm... Nothing. Guess you could say I'm living the dream. And damn thankful for it. My truck has 181k on it, but it runs like a watch so I wouldn't replace it even if I could afford to. I suppose I could move to the city and get a chemistry job (thats what I studied in school) to make some real money, but then I'd be hours (instead of 30 miles, soon to be 2 miles) from the trailhead.
As my dad told me, "Do what you need to do to be happy."

Good comments so far. I also think about the sacrifices I make to ride in the snow and then I remember that my father passed away at 64 from cancer.

HAVE FUN WHILE WE STILL CAN GUYS!!!

Sledding is entertainment for me, so it's a cash sport. If I can pay cash for it, I do it. That's why I still ride my 07 700 RMK Dragon. I've spent money on upgrades over the years instead of a new sled...pipe, can, suspension, shocks, PCV, vents, etc. I drive an 01 Chevy 1/2 ton with lots of upgrades like beefed up suspension all around, Hypertech programmer, K&N FIPK, Flowmaster cat back system (paid it off in 2 years), and an 05 Volvo S40 AWD (paid off also) as a daily commuter. I've been saving up for a new loaded 3/4 ton next spring and probably a new sled in two years. I hate debt, so I save up for what I want. We don't live forever, so we need to make the most of life when we can.

Great thread MPS...Welcome Back!

Great thread here everyone! For me its take care of the family first. I probably wont ever be able to afford new sleds and that is ok, im a believer in taking care of the ones ive got and they will last me a long time (unless i do something stupid). My main problem is i have too many hobbies and not enough time or money for all of them so i have to choose which ones to enjoy.

Sledding will always be a hobby and never a priority
#1 (as many have mentioned) is my family
could i do without a sled?? yep..in fact i did the past 2 seasons
we have youg kids, 4 and 2 and i sold off my sled 2 years ago as i wouldnt have used it
it only got replaced this year, but i can say that i am SUPER stoked to be back tho!!!

the past couple years has been really good for me at work, and has let me purchase a few nicer items (new house, car and sled)
was my "older" stuff good? yep probably......
i grew up with nothing and have a high school education....so to be where i am now making a more than comfortable living.....i deserve a couple nice things ;)

now....its freaking +2*C here today and the snow is melting.......THAT i am depressed about!!! LOL!

Nothing! I work very hard to have what I want in life. I am the american dream less the wife but with 2 great kids ( maybe the better way IMO:face-icon-small-win) got a trailer full of sleds one of which is a new pro soon to be turbo all are paid for . life is good! :face-icon-small-coo

I gave up the wife kid job car home I do every year at least that's what my wife says im married to my riding buddy mikee lol I've gave up alot but the best thing about sledding is seeing the look on my wifes face when she gets through something or over same with my kid I really think sledding is a family sport.if my wife didn't like to ride id miss her

I also have a high mileage pickup a 95 reg cab 12 valve cummins 180 thousand on the dial. ( 300 thousand + to go) would like to have a new car but got a new summit instead. I also don't play as much in the summer because of my obsession with sledding. The toys I myself own are an 02 summit 800 151, 05 ktm 450sx, and the 12 summit 800. I hardly touch the bike put a top end in it this spring and rode it once. I have only been riding sleds for four years but it has started to out weigh everything heck it even had a huge influence on my job! I don't know if I could live without sledding now! If I wasn't sledding who knows what id be spending my money on? By far my favorite this to take up by vaction days :face-icon-small-hap

It took awhile to come up with something but it finally hit me. I gave up the biker lifestyle fast Harleys, bar hopping around the finger lakes in New York, cross country trips to Sturgis,Daytona ect, Still have harleys but hardly ever ride anymore. Started my sledding addiction back east when I bought a 500 indy and upgraded to a 600xc in a couple of weeks . We would be out every nite and every weekend that we had snow could not get enough.
I guess I just changed addictions. Been out west now 8 yrs and I never look back unless I am around people.
Also it is the only time my old lady and I get any time off.

SNOW BABY SNOW

I sacrifice some of my beer money fund for gas. i think its a good trade off

Junior year of college, on a Friday night, I ask my buddy, "I have $12 till next week. Should I go out and party tonight or go ride backcountry tomorrow?" I was just going snowboarding, so didn't need much fuel for the sled (plus it probably had 1/2 tank already).
He says, "Do both. Buy a 40 tonight for 2.50, and 9.50 in gas tomorrow." It worked perfectly:devil:.

Had to give up coyote hunting, just on the weekends I'm out west. Miss out on some late season waterfowling. I tend to miss a lot of meetings at work, they like to have them thursdays or fridays. We'll have to work on the loss of some family time with 8 mo old twins this winter, but the wife will understand.:face-icon-small-hap
