What do you expect from the Trail Pass Collectors

well for starters, I think I'd be willing to even spend a few extra bucks if they logged licence plates or performed some type of security observations on vehicles that enter.
I'm sure it wouldn't take too much detective work to make note of a truck entering without a trailer or a guy driving a rig back mid-day with a 4 place behind it and no buddies..

basically it would be nice to see some security.

I agree. It would be nice if they would hang around at least until there is a steady stream of traffic coming down off down the mountain so that there is always someone in the lot. I drive 10-12 hours to get to my favorite places to ride and would be pissed off if my stuff was vandalized or stolen.

7:00am to 3:00pm is only 8 hours anyways, no different than a days work anywhere else, and they usually sell passes until noon or so most places I ride.

What he said^^^^^. Even if we gotta pay a little more, over the season an extra $100 is worth it to me so that my truck/sleds/fuel/whatever does not get stolen. I'd spend the extra $100 to avoid having to replace a $6000 sled.

not just checking plates. doing a quick jot down on vin numbers. theirs so many stolen sleds riding past you in a day you have no idea. so much **** would get found.

Sounds great and all but think about how much time this would actually take. I know I would not have the patience to sit there waiting in a line while someone trys to write down the VIN on hundreds of sleds. Nice idea and all but that is not what they are there for. They could watch the lot foresure and I am sure all of us would be willing to throw an extra few bucks in for the person at the shack to do it.

I think it would be quick and simple just to get them to take a quick photo of each vehicle with license plate when the trail pass is collected. I have to agree with being willing to pay a little more for some sort of security. Some people don't think that way though. It is ridiculous to hear how some people argue about the price to the poor ladies that are trying to collect.

ya your right it would be time consuming, at least the cops should be doing "random" checks in the parking lots of some big mountains like they do on the highways in bc. it will pay off in the end.

but of course if my sleds have never been stolen, i would be on your side big time to. i wouldnt want anyone wasting my time before i go sledding.

a few extra bucks???? you guys are nuts theift isnt a problem in the areas that arent groomed thats why i ride them most of the time . for 10$ or 15 $ you should be getting more than a pissed off both lady and a trail that was grommed some time last month! vailmount is the worst for that ! At 40 trucks with 3 sleds per truck its 1200$ on an avarage day , theres lots of weekends when u cant park and that number doubles . what im saying is at that rate im sure they could groom the trail on the weekends and have some one with a little knowledge of sleding to work the booth . I think a guy should get some thing for the trail fee and most of the time you dont even get that . Oh and why cant they ever hire a hot booth girl :(

my thoughts..

Have the local club setup a vehicle registry. They could post a form or guidelines on their sites to tell you what info is good. Vehicles, VINs, and photos to keep on file. Have the info ready when you pay your trail fees. That way when something happens, they have the info faster and can get it to the right people. Create a call (or text for cell phones) network (for people that have signed up) for local alerts of stolen vehicles/property. This way the info could get out to people faster when their driving and not when they're sitting at their computer hours after the fact.

Block Watch for Sledders :)

It's not the clubs job to do police work as far as recording VIN's and what not. I would however pay an extra $5 / day to have someone watch and make sure my stuff is where i left it.

Its not the police's work though. its "snowmobiliers" as a community "work"

once you have something stolen off you im sure you'd have slightly different thoughts:beer;

I think the problems are... there are some staging areas that are far enough in that nobody wants to drive in and hang out for 8 hours for what could be a minimal amount of money. It's not guaranteed that there's enough sledders there to make it worth while and that all of them agree to pay. Silent Pass is an example.
The next problem is, are they willing and equipped to confront someone (or worse 2 or 3 guys)?
It's not the clubs job but if all they need to do is collect your info and write down a temporary number for easy tracking of your information it wouldn't be that much work.

This is a good thread and I am taking the idea of having the staff stick around for a bit to my Board meeting this month. To comment on the above, Valemount grooms 5-6 days a week and our schedule is posted throughout town as well as on our website. Im sorry you had a bad experience, but give us another shot. Shoot me a pm and I will comp your trail pass on your first ride this year to show you that our trails are excellent(as long as you dont sleep in too late)

Please keep suggestions coming as I have been following this thread from the beginning and find the info useful

thanks ill take you up on the offer if i get out that way this year . when it comes to grooming and parking lot managment its hard to beat the revy snomobile club. they deal with the most sledders of any place host quite a few big events and always seem to pull it off. plus they way there parking people work are great too . the golden club has the potential to be great but it seems like the people working there just dont care about whats going on most of the time and are usally gone at 1pm .I realize vailmount has the least parking space and you need to make the most of it but why are youre toll booths either around a conner , where they cant see the parking lot or part way up the trail . you have a great area to go sledding during the week but the parking lots on weekends were enough for us to go to blue river or mcbride
