What do you check on your sled before you ride?

How about we do a pretrip list of things to look over before you ride. Here's what I look over before I ride:

-remove belt, clean clutches and inspect belt for frays, abnormal spots, etc
-Pressure test intake/exhuast for leaks (turbo'd unit)
-check oil
-check chain tension/oil level
-look track and skid over
-check coolant and overflow bottle
-wiggle electrical connections looking for loose/pinched ones
-check float shock pressure
-Check battery volt (had a stator go so now I check this, no power in the bush sucks azz)
-cuss at the stock front shocks on my apex
-go over turbo coolant and oil lines making sure they are tight and not leaking
-turn key on and check gauges, fuel pump operation.
-fill with gas
-make sure I have my spare belt

anything I am missing? Lets build a list and I'll laminate it and pin it up in the race trailer.

Hey Wes,

Thanks for posting this. I wanted to get out a post about checking sleds before the snow flies. I bring my sleds back each "pre-season" and go over them in detail in my garage.

I strongly recommend people do it, as my primary sled is an '03 and with 4 years of Boost this is the first year I found some issues that I was lucky to find. Cracked alumunim oil tank support x2, 2 cracks in the rear tunnel (I think from the Hi-Lift jack), the tabs holding the rear heat exchanger, 2 were broken off, 2 cracked. Everything has been corrected now, but I'm sure glad I went through the sled in detail and made sure it's 100%. :) Derek

Thats a good pre Trip Wes. This is all ive looked for.

boost leaks, loose hose clamps
chain tension
skid bolts
oil
fuel pressure every other ride
trunk for a old sandwich

more

i'll add:

-all bearings and wheels
-check function of everything
-TPS readings
-carbides/wear bars
-track tension
-tool kit inventory

keep 'em coming fellas

Were talking about yamahas right?

Fresh Pow on the Snow report - Check!
Full Coffee Pot - Check!
Full Beer Cooler - Check!

fuel in the tank
tether in pocket
maybe take a look around the sled to make sure the skid isn't about to fall off....

it depend what im riding... if its my CAT mod... i usually leave it on the trailer cuz it wont start lol. if its the REV, check carb boots and pto crank seal often. SRX... never had a problem! had a 440 pro X once.. sold it :)

Pressure test

I used two silicon hoses. One plugged for the exhaust and one with a quick connect for my air supply. Put the one on in place of your air intake filter and cap your exhaust outlet with the plugged hose. Pressure up to about 25 psi and look, listen and feel for leaks. I could not cap the standard BD outlet due to its location in the tunnel, so previously I just pushed against the valves. But now with my 3" side outlet, I can :D I find if you road race on rough trails and ride aggressively, it can help you find leaks before they get really annoying.

Hope this made sense...

I check my pants!!! Cause at the end of the day on any BOOSTED NYTRO i'm going sh*t myself at least once through out day!!!! Sorry Wes i had to put that in.

On mine which is supercharged : oil, fuel, belts on clutch and s/c!! Watch boost gauge to make sure you are at the right boost levels. Watch a/f Gauge for proper temps. I'm always doing something to my sled or try this and trying that to always improve and I'm checking everything constantly. To me it is fun and this is sledding not just riding!!!:D:D:D
