I double check the gas tank & oil tank & then make sure the bars are still there.
First and foremost, gas and oil. Track tension, skis pointed straight, scratchers still in tact, suspension sag, quick look over the engine for loose wires or missing springs, etc. All of these are just a quick check.

I only ride trails to get to the first opportunity to exit to the backcountry. IF YOU RIDE THE BACKCOUNTRY IN THE MOUNTAINS. CHECK AVALANCHE CONDITIONS BEFORE LEAVING. THEN DIG TEST PITS AS NECESSARY. Takes 5 mins to dig a test pit. Takes a second to trigger an avalanche and four mins buried to die...
