What do you carry with you?

I'm interested to see what people carry in their pack/vest, and on their bike. It didn't take me long to realize that these things can quickly put you in the middle of nowhere. So I went into survival mode by packing on my med kit, a self recovery kit, survival food, survival kit including space blankets, fire starters, 550 cord and some other things. Signaling items and I'm even looking at folding snow shoes, I've been riding alone a lot because of difference in work Scheduling from every one else around me. I was going to lay out all that I Carry and see what I'm missing or may not really need.

I'm interested to see what you carry.

too much

Not showing shovel (2), snow shoes, saw, flashlight (2), knife, gloves (4), leatheman, fire starter, spot, radio, gps, food, suspension shims, ava vest, probe, hat, spare goggles, hot hands (10), extra fuel, gu, camara and peeper.
Too much if not used, not enough when needed.

For a second I thought that one item was a shaker for mixing martinis on the side of the hill. Now THAT is one prepared crew! Did you bring any olive spears?

Excellent pack moto. That's pretty damn complete outside of tools.

Beyond the usual Avy and safety gear like probes, shovel, saw, tools, I carry my days food supply and a bit of reserve just in case, water and a thermos of hot coffee. I also carry a pull strap for pulling our a dead unit. Zip locks, various sizes, some first aid basics. Bic Lighter for sure. Sharp knife. Tylenol extra strength just in case someone gets hurt. Camera. Four foot long small Booster cables.

...and these days I carry spare gas, as much as I can, haha!

Even though I have Klim gear I carry a bivy bag made by SOL its orange outer shell can be spotted easyier ,also never go cheap buy a real snow pack shovel not plastic ,in frantic mode its great to have a guideline ,theres free compact survival booklets at most parks and recreation offices

For fire starter and signalling, i carry two 15 min flares. 15 min of fire in each one to signal or use to help start a larger fire to keep warm. GPS, phone, and avalanche beacon are always with me. There are lots of other items as well. When you end up being the tow trk for the others, you carry lots. Lol

I've got a SOL bivvy sack, soon to have msr plastic snowshoes, 2 sources of fire, med kit, 16 oz of charcoal lighter fluid (much more effective than gas), paracord, hat and extra gloves, and of course a Spot and all the avy gear. Pretty sure one of us will be walking out one of these days.

If I had known you were packing all of this, I'd pack less!
I'm gonna add the 550 cord and flare to the list on mine.

adventure gear

just flopped down after long adventure in the snow.

I only ride with Vega 350 on here, I never ride alone anymore.
We try not to duplicate if possible:
I carry extra primary chain plus several masterlinks
Dan has chain case chain
both have shovels
one big leatherman
both have two pairs extra dry gloves
100' 750lb parachute cord
both have 2 gal gas
matches/cig lighter/fire starter/vial diesel for fires
complete tools divided between us, complete tear down of kit possible, bike ........not so much
each have food packs and litre of drink or more
led flashlight
zip ties
tape
selection of critical universal nuts and bolts
we seldom ride where phone would be useful, usually have one between us
we need some 1st aid, don't right now.

I like your mind set! very complete kit.

For your medical I recommend keeping it simple. Break it into two categories.
1. Basic home type meds. - Bandaids, tweezers, head ache meds, diarrhea meds....
2. BLS (Basic Life Support) Meds - Heavy Pain Killers, Sewing kit, some type of wound cleaning substance... With back country med you don't want to try and solve the problem in the field. the idea is to survive until you can be extracted or trained personal can get to you and get you out. Ive seen a lot of backcountry rescues where the victim made things worse by trying to heal them selfs and move out. If you're really hurt, Stop the bleeding, signal for help, get comfortable and wait for rescue. Set a time limit that if no one comes or you see no one for x number of hours/days you move to a location that is more likely to be seen.
