Huh...
Some great idea's here. I know Harley guys are kind of traditional but the new age of Harley riders are here. It is no different than any other group.
I painted a 76 Harley Fat Boy forest green years ago. It had lots of chrome, ape hangers and a sweet set of pipes. I think Chrome goes with any color especially pastel colors. Metallic flakes and special effects paints are cool too. I have always love solid colors. Traditional, old style rides were very popular in solid/pastel colors. If you are a black guy, then go with black. I personally think black has been done over and over until it has been overdone.
Black Harley's are the one thing that is always in style so I wouldn't worry, yet, I think like the hot-rod industry Black has become the Bad Boy scheme and everyone thinks because they have a black ride they are BAD!!! I read the stickers... "No Fear!!!" "Metal Mulisha!!!" and such. They are so common and the peeps think they are BAD!!! I've had a couple run ins with the BAD boys and it is funny once you stick your nose in their face how UN-BAD they really are. A beard, a leather jacket and a black ride don't add up to BAD... maybe a bad attitude.
Still I do appreciate Black in it's place. Black is a color that is amazing when it is clean. It is the first to show dust and dirt and paint swirls and scratches show instantly if you aren't careful. Lighter colors show less dirt and dust and also don't show scratches like dark colors.
Personally, I would look to the 50's up till the late 60's and pick a color that no-one has. You won't regret it. A few will always criticize but they are the one's who will probably never anti up to a build of their own. Most guys who are into similar projects will appreciate what you do.... as long as it isn't PINK...
