What chain for 19 45 gearing?

I've wondered about that myself. When installing the recommended 74 link, the adjuster uses up pretty much all the threads leaving little left for future adjustment. But I figure the engineers must know what they're doing so I get in line like the rest of the sheep:rolleyes: If you give it a whirl let us know how it turns out

Ok, I searched (like I should of to start) and see I need to be using a 74 link chain. I am reading that there will be lots of slack / severe bend in chain. sounds like I will almost have to max out the tensioner.

Who is running 19 45 gearing and has this caused any problems? Should I go 19 47 instead to avoid the severe bend in the chain?

???
thanks

19/45 with a 74 chain is standard equip. for most all Summits. and deep lug gades. Like I posted earlier it uses up a lot of the adjuster thread but that's the way it was made at the factory and I have never experienced a problem with it. The 72 link idea is intriquing in that it seems like it would give more adjustment life but it's good practice to change the chains at least once a season, and these chains are under a lot of stress and tend to fatique and crack links leading to cracked chaincases. (Learned this the hard way)

I installed a 74 link chain and it fits fine. Thanks wwracer! Now I have an extra 72 link along with 43 and 47 tooth gears laying around... maybe I'll try the 47 later this year after running the 45 for a while .. see what I like more.
