What carry gun to buy????

I'm trying to decide on what gun to carry as I'll be getting my permit soon. I have been looking at the Springfield XDm in a 9mm or .40 cal. Or the Taurus "Judge". I like the judge for its versatility being able to chamber .45 and .410 so it wont go through walls or kill unless I want it to. Keep in mind that I'm looking for personal and home protection only so the judge is where I'm leaning most right now. Thanks in advance.

I have two Taurus revolvers and have had good luck with them. I have the tracker in both .41 mag and .38 snubnose (for the wife). I like the reliability and have confidence in revolvers over autos. Sure they are heavier and dont have the mag capacity, but I have never had a revolver jam or misfire. The Taurus has a lifetime warranty, and they are basically a clone of the Smith and Wesson. If you want to read more about the Judge...go to www.gunblast.com he has some good reviews on tons of weapons.

I was thinkin of getting one for the wife as well. I was kind lookin at the .327 it seems like it would be a good smaller cal for the wife or for lighter carry but havent done much research on it yet.

I dont know much about that caliber .327, but I think I will buy the Judge myself in the ultra-lite. It would make a good camp/snake gun for around here. My wife likes her .38 in the Protector Ultra-lite and it doesnt have an exposed hammer to get caught up on crap in her purse...lol.

I went with the XD 9 service for my first carry gun.. it doesn't have the new safty but do you wanna try to release it if you need to save your life? I wouldn't. I thought about the judge to but for me (im a small guy) I didn't want to carry it around, even the 29 or something oz. the xd weighs gets to be a pain sometimes in the warm weather. I'm currently waiting for my Ruger LCP to get here for summer carry, its only a .380 but I dont have a problem relying on it... Whatever you decide know before you buy one that you will buy another, and another.....:face-icon-small-coo

stainless .45 Kimber Pro Carry with aluminum frame.

Terrific firearm!

Go with the laser grips for home protection.

By the way, the Ruger 380 LCP is also an excellent firearm but with much less power.

I carry a Glock 23 .40 cal. If i could do it over again i'd go for the XD-45 compact. For straight up home defense it's 12 guage for sure! Kimbers are really nice! Hungry for your wallet though. lol.

Personal carry and home defence are two different things, I'd suggest two different guns.

nothing beats a shotty for home defence
get one with a pressure activated light

some articles I found decent, with a few quotes that were excellent points.

A gun that looks like a duck gun rather than an evil black rifle will always influence a gun ignorant jury less.

If you already own a sporting 870, you can get a short, interchangeable barrel for it out of the Midway catalog for as little as $99.99. A quick barrel swap turns your bird gun into a close-range home-defense tool.

My personal choice? The classic Remington 870 12 gauge.

A powerful light mounted on the gun not only gives you something of a shield of light behind which you can work, it also allows you to be sure of your target.

For personal carry I'd suggest something that you'll auctually carry. I gaurantee you won't be packing a Desert Eagle .357 for long ( I have one, it's HEAVY)

Get a small cal, high cap gun that is small and light weight. Nothing wrong with a 9mm gun
bigger rounds require a bigger gun! Get it too big and you won't carry it.

Remember that ONE time you need the gun will be that one time you didn't pack it!

get some training too

So it looks like I'll be getting the Judge since this will be my first hand gun and it can most everything I want it to until I can build up my collection and get some that are more specialized for specific things. I already have a shotgun in the house that will be used for protection as well.

I carry a stainless Taurus 24/7 chambered in .45ACP. With the polymer lower it is really light. It's got a rail up front that I put a laser/light combo on.

It handles well, shoots straight, and is fairly cheap, making it a great entry level weapon.

My next gun will be either an XD .45 or a Baby Eagle. Not sure if I want the Baby though, being it's made by the towel heads...LOL. It does shoot really nice though.

Good luck
Boone

No one probbaly cares but, I got my LCP in last night :D 7 shots and the gun weighs under 10 oz... sweet little deal cant feel it at all on you.
