What Battle Armor????

Was riding last year and fell hard on my side rail, right on my knee cap. It still hurts.

Was wondering what protective gear people are wearing? I am concerned about fit i.e low volume (fit under clothes), good protection and most of all breathability. Mostly boondocking so I am already sweating my bag off.:face-icon-small-con

Any advice!

661 pressure suit or tekvest (make sure it is full front plate, not zipper in the center).

thor force knee/shin guards. ski

For regular riding I wear a set of Neoprene kneepads BY SIXSIXONE, they work pretty well. For a day where I plan to be jumping a lot, I wear a set of Fox launch pads, they cover the whole knee & shin.

x2 on the MX knee/shin guards. Never ride w/o them. My knees are super wussy from too many smashes n crashes.
I like knowing I'm protected. My foot slipped off my board a coupla years ago (no guards) and I gnashed it on the rb edge. PAIN!!!! and a massive gouge to the bone. Will never do that again.
Also never ride w/o a chest protector. Got kids and people that depend on me to be able to work the next day.

Having multiple surgeries on my knee due to similar injuries over the years, if it still hurts you may have done some minor damage. Such impacts can cause a piece of soft cartiledge to break off the back of your patella (knee cap). These loose bodies can cause your knee to be generally sore and swell at times and if they are big enough, even cause binding and giving out of the knee (why i had to get mine removed). Might be worth looking into an MRI if it still bothers you, most minor type of scoped knee surgery to remove any little pieces and very short recovery. and now i ride with downhill mt bike shin/knee pads:)

Some of my dirt bike friends swear by these if you want a real good knee guard that also is a brace.

I usually just wear my knee cups, my boot top holds them up better than my motocross boos ever did.

What's wrong with the ones with the zipper in the middle?

full plate will always offer more protection than a two piece zippered together plate. the zipper will allow the plate to flex in the most critical area you need the protection at, which is your sternum. you hit the bars/riser hard with a flexing plate, you will know it, in the morning.

we had an experience where the wife hit a ditch in a creek area on a technical climb, she stopped dead, and bounced off the riser and bars. with her in the medical field she thanked god, that i made her wear a tek vest with the full plate. she figured anything less and we were flying her out of the back country.

thats enough info for me to wear a full plate on the sled and bike. but again, that is just an opinion that a one piece plate would offer more support and protection than a two piece unit under the same impact. ski
