What Bag Size? -- ABS

ABS has a ton of different bags. I'm wondering what bag to pick for the amount of gear I carry.

I typically carry:

Shovel
Probe
SOS Kit
3 pair Goggles
3 pair Gloves
Food. IE Granola / Jerkey

I'm a fat guy. 6'2 300 but dropping weight. Will the bags strap on to my big ***?

Appreciate any help.

I would recommend looking at the Vario pack. With the amount of gear you carry, a Vario 15L pack sounds about right. The ABS Freeride will probably be a little small for the gear you want to carry.

I think you will be a lot happier with the fit of the Vario 15L over the Escape 15. In addition, if you ever want a bigger pack for more storage you can buy the additional zip-on packs and not have to get a new airbag.

Hope that helps.

Do you have any in stock that you could overnight for a Tuesday delivery? Also, could you PM me the price?

I'd like a price on a zip on pack too.

i agree with snowbigdeal that the vario 15 would be ideal for what you carry. I have a vario 25 that i use for work and rarely need that amount of space. I may pick up a 15L zip on for sledding.

if you use the two top straps that secure the pack to the base unit, get used to accessing your avy gear from one side as they prevent quick access from the top.

Vario SB15L

Vario bag is awesome! Fits well! has many zip on options as snowbigdeal stated.
I have the 15L SB bag...which is a "snowmobile" bag ...has a sleeve to hold shovel handle outside of the bag as well as the shovel itself is held outside of the bag which i liked to keep the inside of my pack dry. I carry about the same things as you and there is plenty of room.

Hope you find a bag that works for ya!

Glad someone posted this because I'm looking to buy and can't decide on which ABS bag also. I was looking at the SB 15L attachment because I want an external shovel holder, but it doesn't look like it has a hydration system. Is that true and is it possible to add hydration to it?

ABS 30

I GOT THE ABS 30 HAD IT 3 SEASONS KNOW AND NO COMPLAINTS,PLENTY OF ROOM FOR ALL MY GEAR , I CARRY MAJORITY OF MY GEAR IN THE BAG SO INCASE I GET SEPARATED FROM THE SLED OR BIKE , THE MOUNTAINS CAN BE YOUR FRIEND OR ENEMY SO ITS GREAT YOUR LOOKING INTO SAFETY EQUIPMENT ITS JUST A MINOR EXPENSE IN THE TOTAL ADVENTURE OF THIS SPORT

How do you describe the difference in fit between the Vario and Escape?

I have a freeride that fits perfect for me, but always looking.

I had a freeride, loved the bag but traded it for the 15L Escape just to put more items in, and am now going to give that to my dad and get a Vario so I can get the different sized bags for more adjustability. My 15L was able to carry every safety essential I needed plus some food, drink, etc. The only thing I don't like on the escape is no good place for shovel and handle.
