Looking at getting an avy bag and would only carry shovel and probe.

Wondering what people are wearing and what they like about it and what would make it better?

Abs boasts having a 2nd air bag in case one gets punctured...thoughts also on this vs one bag.

thx!

I picked up a bca float 22 at a snow show this fall. The biggest thing for me is the ease of getting the cylinder refilled if i catch the handle ridding in the trees or ever have to use it. Price was also a huge factor at 600 bucks with cylinder is hard to beat. Im able to get shovel probe food water and a sweat shirt some fire starting stuff and a few other odds and ends but thats about it.

abs here all the way,
tried and true results
i hear about lots of people not putting there systems to gether properly and the units not firing, i dont want that, i dont hear that about ABS
its more money but the back pack is useless if it dosnt fire when i want it to, i have a spare trigger and canister,
i dont have to refill i just stop buy the dealer give them my cylinder and trigger and they give me a new one, no looking for a refill station or worrying about o-rings
but that is only my thoughts

ABS Vario, bought new/unused for cheap $500 from private party, came with 25L bag, bought 15L zip on for cheap $45 for those short rides, versital pack. Plan on adding right side trigger kit, can't go wrong with ABS. Nitrogen.

BCA, Float 32. Like the bigger bag for carrying lighter stuff such as extra clothing and some safety gear. Having to pay only $5 for a tank refill is also nice and you can service the valve yourself if need be. You can change the trigger to whatever side you want and also run a hydration line through the shoulder strap as well. Very comfy bag, lots of straps to keep the load tight and secure.....Sherm

BCA.....lots of options, easy to fill, one stop shopping for Avy gear and they support sledder initiatives and fundraising efforts. I don't see the others doing this.....they just take.
my .02

i have 2 now thanks to yammi snowcheck:face-icon-small-hap
abs & now a float 22 will find out which i like better soon.

Wary Avi Vest ( out of business now )

Could not pass up the $350 with canister from blown motor.

Sucks wary went out of business, I can't see ever wearing a backpack again!

Hey Bob
Wary avy vest $350 snowbigdeal..he has a few left. the vest doesn't wear on your shoulders like the packs do and I always had the problem when looking up my helmet would hit the top of the pack.. not a issue with the vest. The bad is wary is outta Biz I guess.. but they are very good quality . I also have 3 of the BCA packs and the wife and kids love them..

The floats area nice setup, and I have done a lot of them for guys, but im running an ABS/Ortovox combo unit 20l this season and really liking it so far. super nice built pack.

Got 5 rides now with my new Wary vest. very comfortable, doesn't matter how much stuff you have in the pack. Its never in the way and it doesn't carry the weight on your shoulders like a pack does. Very nice quality if you can still get your hands on one. Eric

Completely agree. I just test fired my ABS today and it worked perfect. When I was in the dealership getting new bottle, they were talking about a guy that hadnt tested his in 8years, also an ABS and it worked perfect when test fired after 8 years.

a few things to consider before deciding on one of these packs. 1. What kind of bag do you want? BCA = compressed air = fillable at any dive shop or compressed air facility. ABS = compressed nitrogen = buy a new cylinder and trigger every time you deploy it, or use the exchange program if a dealer has them in stock. 2. Whatever design and fit is best for you? ABS has two air chambers vs BCA's one. Some people prefer that. Others prefer BCA for the price point and the ease of refills. Really comes down to what points are important to you. We have used both packs quite a bit, and can give real world riding information if you would like. Just let us know if you have any specific questions!
