What are the best skis?

I've ran Simmons on my Doo and will buy another set for my M, they just make the sled better handle better.

What are you looking for?

Each ski has it's purpose. My partners all use the simmons. I have the new polaris skis and they seem to work well. My wife wants new skis to minimize darting on the trails, I'll probably try the SLP skis.

BTW - There is nothing wrong with asking this question. Ski technology is constantly changing and so will the opinions.

When I asked this question a while back it seemed like a toss up between Sly Dogs and SlP Powder pros. I am ordering Powder Pros soon!

I have always run stock skis, but I just ordered a set of Gen 2's from simmons. I have heard some really good things about the Gen 2's in deep snow, so im gonna give them a go.

From almost any time someone asks about skis, it seems like simmons comes out on top. If I were you, I would look into them pretty hard! the gen 1's are more of a standard width, the gen 2's are wide as hell FYI..

The main thing is to pick the ski for what type of riding you do. A good race ski may not perform as well in the mountains as the mountain ski and vice versa. Just something to think about :)

You've either got powder pros on your sled or youve got.....well who cares what you've got if they aren't PP's:D

If you want to be a trail rider, buy the first gen Simmons...

If you like to have skis that double as wake boards for you and a buddy for summer fun, buy the new Simmons.

If you want a ski for a mountain sled, that when you turn the bars...that is the direction the sled will go, then Powder Pro's are the only option IMHO...

We have the Simmons Gen II's on both of our Revs and love'm.
Like any Simmons ski, they really smooth out the ride and darting is very minimal. They plane out quick in when the snow gets deep. I'm hanging on to our old skis just so we can keep these for our next set of sleds.

Everyone will have a different answer on this--and it does make a difference on each sled.

Personally--I have run almost all skis out there--except the PP's. They all have their good and bad points.

I am now running the Mod's ski's. I ran into them in BC and tried a set and have not gone back. They are light yet strong. I have damaged them and really like that I can by the peices to repair them cheap instead of having to by a new pair. In the Pow-Pow I really like them--on the trail they are just above average IMO.

My .02

H20SKE...

Had a par of first gen simmons, and didn't like the way they pushed in the pow, especially if you were going downhill. Sleds that push piss me off  Other than that, they were a great ski.

Friend has a set of GenII on his Apex, and he really likes em'. But they might be overkill for a lighter 2 smoker. It is fun to take him through the tight trees and hear the cursing behind me. :D

Have run Powder Pros for several seasons and really like them. They float great and go where you point em'. You'll never realize how much other skis push until you have PPs. But, you have to be careful on a hill. If while sidehilling you hit a patch of firmer snow or during a highmark turnout under power, they can grab unexpectantly and possibly chuck you off the sled. Thinking of trying the mod where you cut off a portion of the back outside ski this year to see if that helps.

No ski is going to be perfect in all conditions/terrain.

On the trailing arm sleds there is nothing better then Simmons IMO.

I'm going to be trying a pair of the Carl's Cycle modified Powder Pros on the RAW chassis here soon.

I've always liked the simmons and am anxious to try the gen lls on my Apex. Would much rather see the ski thread than the 2-stroke vs 4-stroke thread some seem to be so hung up on!

USI x2

I have run simmons, and have had powder pros for quite a few years with good results, but last year I tried out the USI x2 skis, also know as triple threats, and so far it is the best ski I have run, it has changeable keel and fin for different types of riding, you can set them up for trail, set them up for powder, or you can order blanks and make your own keel and fin design.
They don't get grabby in set up spring snow like the powder pros, and they have good trail manners, too. They float like powder pros in the deep. I think they are the best overall ski.

Good luck with whatever you choose.

I tried Simmons not the best in the powder. Good on the trail.
My last three sled's have all had the MODS and the nytro will be getting some soon. I wish Yamaha made better ski's their mountain ski s#%ks.
