what kind of driving, fog lights is everyone running on there rigs? Looking for something to mount on my bull bar on a 06 dodge. I do lots of night driving on deer filled highways, looing for better long and wide range visabilty. thanks for any help.

I have a 09 F350, i have a bull bar on my truck to. But i got HID 8000K low/High beam headlights and HID fog lights on my truck put in and WOW they are great!!! I was going to get lights on my bull bar to, but i haven't cause i really don't need them. They Are Xenon HID they come with ballasts and bulbs and are plug and play very easy to install. If you are interested i can hook you up with some i have a buddy that gets them very cheap. I am in Canada too.

I run the Lightforce 170 Striker on both my tow rigs....

and I couldn't imagine driving at night without them. The guys joke that the motorhome looks like an oncoming train! :D

Ditto on the Lightforce Strykers. I bought these to replace a set of 6" cheapies from Princess Auto that I put 150 watt aircraft landing lights in. All things considered, the cheap ones with those bulbs were much more affordable and quite noticeably brighter. I like the indestructability of the lightforce though, but had I known they wouldn't have lit up the road and treeline like my old ones I wouldn't have spent the money on them.

So you are saying you like them or you don't like the lightforce????

Driving lights.

My only suggestion is if you want lights that will give you better visibility farther out, make sure to get 'driving' lights and not 'fog' lights. The more focused beam will reach farther. I've run Piaa on my last two trucks and they seem to be pretty reliable. My current set allows you to switch between fog and driving lights with one bulb, but I don't think they work as well as the previous set that was solely driving lights.

I like the Lightforce for the beam adjustability, and the indestructability but like I said, they are expensive. With cheaper housings and 150 watt bulbs I had better illumination. After reading about the Lightforce I believed they would outperform what I already had. I don't regret buying them, but they might not be worth the money.

Check Hella website, they just came out with a new 7 inch light. Looks pretty good. Put in a set of 100 watt bulbs and should be lots of light. They are a lot cheaper than Lightforce. I got a set of Hella 5 inch on my pickup and they are just as good as lightforce. Except for the rocks of course, so when you start replacing glass lense's lightforce don't nseem so expensive after all.

I was lokking for the ultimate driving light for my logging truck years back when lightforces were first coming out in canada, i finially put out the big bucks for the 240 blitz lights and was impressed, but when they were no longer the ticket in my town i contacted VISION X USA and tried a set of their fully self contained 35 watt hid lights and ..... HOLY SH*T! they had to be at least 3 times as bright as my old sun dial sized lightforces. we have since became a dealer for them as no one in B.C carried them. trust me when i say you will not be dissapointed, they have a ton of options no matter what you are looking for. be careful with lightforce hid's as they have an external ballast to start the bulb and the ballast must remain dry wich is a pain in most applications where as vision x lights are 100% self contained, complete plug and play, they alson have really trick L.E.D bars that will blow your mind and draw very little amperage. cheers!

i run 4 170 light force on the front of my dodge. 2 of them have been converted over to HID and the other 2 are normal. Im going to switch them out for a 30" Rigid Industries Led bar for between the tow hooks when i feel like gettin off my wallet. put a 10" on my girlfriends car and im sold on them. thing is bright as hell.

lighting

Well I got off my wallet for some VisionX lights and they make it like daylight but don't extend past your highbeams like I wanted. They fill out any lighting voids your headlights might have but cost way to much money. Of course they pay for themselves with one missed Moose, Buffalo, or Deer.:face-icon-small-dis

I'm on my 3rd Dodge truck. The headlights suck A$$! So, on my second one, I put a light bar, and went with Hella Brand lights. I was, and am, very happy with their price and performance. (if money is no object, I think PIAA is hard to beat, but you sure do pay for it, the Hella brand is almost as good, and lots less money)

On my current Dodge, I decided to put a set of HID headlights in it, and WOW! what a difference. I havent' used my Hella's since I put the HID's in the truck. But, I have left them on, cuz they look cool and the bar also offeres some protection of the various coolers behind the grille. If I do hit something, I know it's going to the body shop, but if my bar can help me 'limp' home, it's worth the extra protection.

I run 4 hella 500ff (2 fog, 2 driving) mounted on my ranch hand grille guard. They put out a lot of light and help me see the deer trying to sneek out in front of me

I love the HID kit I installed on my car but honestly you need to stay in the 4100k-4300k range. 4300k is the closest light temperature range to "natural" light. Meaning your (human) eyes can see 4300k the best.

A black light is something like 15,000k. So technically it is brighter but the human eye cannot "see" that light so it is really un-usable.

I feel bad for some of the other cars on the road around you guys. Take that into consideration. If you do a good job of aiming your lights it will help on-coming traffic. Keep the lights mounted a little lower as well.

A well designed light is better than a poorly designed setup that is just throwing a bunch of light out there.

Finally someone else who understands light. Check out any high quality factory HID or better yet, Bi xenon lights and you find all are around 4300k and have lamp housing designed to focus the light precisely. I see aftermarket HID's in factory lenses throwing unusable dark blue light all over the place, usually blinding every on coming car. Get proper lights and aim them!

2 Hella 500s and 2 Hella 700s (all in driving light pattern, not fog lights)on the front of my Jeep, all of them with SilverStar Ultra bulbs. To me good bulbs are just as important as long as the housing is tough enough. Aim them well and don't leave them lit for on coming cars, they're not factory fog lights so don't use them like factory lights. I can turn mine on with low beams and they're always on with the high beams. Don't forget good quality wire, not the cheap stuff that comes with the lights and the same thing goes for relays, use good ones so you're not replacing them right away.

In my stroker I installed 5000k hids in my lows and highs and also my fogs. And from stock you don't even have to turn your highs on. I liked them so much I installed them in my dragon and I am in the process of doin em in my sportsman 850!
