Could you please notify your membership that if they run across stranded livestock in their ventures in the snow to please contact us. Every year some livestock get lost in the mountains due to deep snow. We make every attempt to locate these animals and the problem we have is the information gets to the livestock owners sometimes 3rd or 4th hand and we don't end up finding the animals. If someone sees cow tracks (not moose or elk) or cattle that are holed up under trees, next to a creek, or wherever, please let us know. Good details; road number, miles into that location, what drainage (you get the idea) really help. I know your members have good skills in search and rescue and all those same skills come into play in this effort. We make every effort to get our animals off of public lands by our "off date" but some are going to get stranded because the amount of timbered acres and hiding places is so vast. That isn't the cattle's fault and it is up to us to follow leads until we exhaust every possibility. The information for the Council Mountain area needs to be related to Justin Mink at 208-566-4500. For West Mountain and Indian Mountain area please call me, Royce Schwenkfelder, at 208-550-2200 and for the south end of the area of West Mountain, call Steve Sutton at 208-550-0751 or Weldon Branch at 208-355-2308. Those are all cell phone numbers except for Weldon's and can be reached most of the time. If GPS coordinates are available, we could really use those. Thanks for the help, we really appreciate it!
