anyone got and good suggestions for chips and exhaust? this is my first diesel so im on a steep learning curve but so far im LOVIN IT!!!

You will be happy. I have an stock 03 with 185k on it and it still runs like a charm. Very few issues beyond normal wear and tear. Good truck and solid motor.

You should keep an eye on the fuel lift pump in the tank. These things are notorious for loosing pressure and causing the injector pump to fail due to lack of fuel.

So install a small indicator light tied into a pressure switch. So if you start to get a dip in pressure the light comes on. Otherwise somewhere sometime you will be sitting along side the road waiting for a tow.

O' and a $2500 bill to repair.

But like others have said really good pickup. You will enjoy.

As for chips and such. I personally have had good luck with Bullydog programmers and the Bullydog outlook monitors.

Nice looking truck, man. Keep an eye on the lift and injector pumps. When my dad's went, it was about $2500. But other than that they're great trucks. His truck has a 60 horse edge chip, it's a pretty good setup. Although, chip technology has come a long way since he had his installed.

theres a page or two of discussion on this topic for that truck in the trucks section if you haven't seen it yet. its under "cummins mods", there might be a few more topics about it to but not sure. both my buddies with 01 cummins run the edge comp which adds decent power but runs pretty hot. like mentioned i'd start with gauges so you can keep an eye as you go.

We own the same exact truck...do yourself a favor and go spend $500 on the in-tank fuel pump upgrade from Dodge. If your lift pump goes you will have a mess, and there are already enough lights to watch in the dash without another worry light for the fuel pressure.
Other than that, 4 inch exhaust all the way back, edge chip, aftermarket air filter, plug off the wastegate tube on the turbo, ER in the front-rear ends and transfer case. Hydro-gen generator on ours and we get 16-19 mpg towing and better empty with 3:73 gears on a five speed-stock tire size.
She'll be a good runner for you, no doubt! Good luck.

This site will give the best TRUE information out of all the forum sites listed that wont lead you to destroying your new pickup. Its been around a long time, has lots of history and lots of people that know their stuff. http://www.turbodieselregister.com
I would also look into replacing the lift pump, there are allot of options out there, but from what I have experienced and others experiences I would go with a Fass or AirDog set up of some sorts. $500-800 now is allot cheaper than taking the injection pump when the lift pump fails not to mention the tow back to town. I would also suggest at getting a fuel gage of some sorts to. The dummy light like one of the other guys already mentioned is ok, but not great, a gage is much better to keep an eye on it and really know what is going on with it.

skip the in tank pump. buy an air dog or fass, plus a fuel pressure gauge.

thanks for all the info guys! i am well aware of the lift pump probs though. can you get a fuel pressure gauge and mount it on the pillar or would you have to under the hood? as soon as i get some money im gunna look into a FASS fuel pump. as for the intake. im going to try and build my own. there is no way in hell i am going to spend $350 on an intake. i have been lookin into the edge chip with the monitor so it covers all the gauges but i hear its an ok chip and you have high EGT's.

what would you guys suggest doing first? putting a chip and gauges or FASS fuel system on just for insurance?

1 more ?. how well do the stock torque converters hold up?

mods in order

1.juice with attitude since it has gauges aswell
2.goerend valve body, haisley valve body assistant.
3.air dog/ fass
4.hx35 turbo/62/12 s300 variant

really in all honesty you could skip the fass/airdog lift pump and get a 125 dollar airtex that would keep up fine with the stock injectors and the edge juice.I wouldn't think about adding injectors until you get rid of the small 9cm turbine on the turbo.

Skip the in tank upgrade and spend that money on either a Fass or Airdog like others have stated... Or go with the Airtex and big lines and relocation kit like I did.. it's keeping up with 140hp injectors fine so far...

I like actual gauges rather than digital, so I'd go with a used Edge Drag comp, and a good set of gauges.. but that's imho...

oh and Dodge's don't run "chips" Ford's do... ;) Dodge's run programers and fueling and timing boxes... The old 7.3l Ford "chips" look like a chip, hence their name... just a pet peeve of mine, kinda like when ppl say "Cummings"... :beer;

Oh and your stock torque converter won't take much more that 70-80hp over stock for very long... At least upgrade the valve body...

Mine took a 65hp edge EZ for a long time just fine till I upgraded to a drag comp... then about 3 or 4 romps on 5x5 on the interstate and it slipped... once it slipped it got worse and worse till I had 'er built by Goerands...
