welder help/suggestions

I'd like to purchase a small mig welder for infrequent home owner use.

So far I've found the Hobart Loadhandler 210 to be to my liking http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_6970_200336866_200336866

any other reccomendations?

found used miller on craigslist http://spokane.craigslist.org/tls/591390978.html
seems high priced but with the 3 bottles and cart it would be cheaper then the hobart 210 with simmilar accessories

want the opinions of the welders on this 4m

too bad the spoolgun for alum is 450 bux for the hobart :(
I'd purchase that down the road sometime

is it best to rent bottles or buy them?

Go to a local welding supply store to buy your welder.

I say this because you will be needing consumables & replacements parts, which can be a pain if welder was bought elsewhere.

Plan on upgrading the stock whip with a Tweco, stock guns suck.

I'm a fan of Millers... they seem to regulate voltage a little better than the hobart/lincolns do. Had a 251 at my last job, while a little out of your price range it was a very nice welder. Had the spool gun for aluminuminum as well.

I don't think you can go wrong with the Hobart I have used that model and it worked good, it seemed OK for the trial that I gave it. the millermatic 251 is what I would recommend it has the board built in it for the use of a spool gun so if you decide to buy a spool gun down the road you can I personally own this welder and have been very pleased with it but it is more money than the models you are looking at I would check with your local welding suppliers for used welders usually you can find good deals this way and is easier to get consumables when you buy from a local dealer as far as tanks go I would rent them most places have life time rental fee and is cheaper in the long run, if you own the tanks you need to have them tested I think its every 3 years not cheap.

osc usually has used welders . highly recommend this company

Alot of them work well these days. Look at the duty cycle. Most of those smaller boxes shut down to cool, great for garage, not so good for shop. You can get a nice 250A mig setup for a little more $ but you get what you pay for. IMO:D

I have a Lincoln that the wifey got me from Home Depot. Works great, but I wish it could handle a bigger load. I can only weld for 5 minutes at a time.

Any sugesstions?

You should try out a TIG before you buy a MIG.

I've got a lot of steel projects I want to do too, and I don't care for stick welding...

ideally I would have a mig for steel and tig for alum, perhaps down the road a ways I'll have both plus a plasma cutter.

I'll go back to the local shop, think they sell lincoln products but the plasma cutter they were pushing I didn't recognize. It was a yellow? box if memory serves correctly.
