Weird computer / start issue

So, I was riding for the first time this year this weekend and everything was operating normally on my 2013 XM for the first part of the day. About 4 hours into the ride my sled started acting strange.

I have estart on the sled and whenever I would take the kill switch off the sled would immediately start without me hitting the start button. As well, it would not easily go in reverse. I'd hit the reverse button a bunch and it was like it wasn't registering with the computer. At some point it would go into reverse, but it didn't beep to say it was in reverse. Then, same process to get it going forward again by hitting the button alot until it finally registered.

Also, the gauges and readouts all were powered on, but they didn't work (as in speed and RMP just indicated 0 and no other information being read out). Analog gauges didn't work either. The startup test beeps didn't happen.

This happened for about an hour and a half until it later started magically working again. It was maybe 25F out and snowing alot, so I'm thinking maybe the start/reverse button was frozen. But, not sure why that would cause all the other issues.

Anyone have something like this happen before?

Sounds like the RER/Start switch was wet and or frozen down shorting it out.

Might want to look inside the switch and see if there is any evidence of water getting in there... some dielectric grease might help prevent it.

Same thing happened last year on my 14 xm. Warranty replaced the harness and switch for start and reverse.

Thanks, I'm not sure if there is a good way to get into the switch, but might be able to find some dielectric grease that can be squirted in there from the outside as something to try if it persists.

Glad to hear someone else had the issue as well. Also glad to hear that replacing the switch might fix it vs. a total computer issue.

I unscrewed the top where the gauges and all connect (around the glove box) and found that one of the connectors wasn't totally snapped together. It felt pretty tight, but just not all the way. I'm going to see if the issue comes back on the next couple rides. My guess is that it has something to do with the start/RER switch but it is weird how that affected everything else.
