Wedge Tunnel Advice.

Ok, here is my insanity.

Back ground: Two Ultras. One rolled chaincase, 165 2x156, Big bore, boss seat. The other stock. I want to run a 162 x 2.5 on the BB but can't since my chaincase is too short center to center. Also, since the tunnel and bulk head of that sled is already swiss cheese, I thought that it would be easier to start with the stock machine and put an extended chaincase on that and just swap out all my bolt on goodies...

So that means I need a new tunnel, both longer and probably more turned up in the back for track clearance.

Who knows of a good tunnel to use?..cost is a bit of a driver since...hey...these are 10 yr old sleds....

thanx

Cost is not that big of an issue, I would like to keep my 9 tooth drivers (7 if I go to a 3.0 track. Already have a drop and roll. Chaincase center to center is only about 6 5/8? It won't fit the taller tracks.

It will fit... You only use 1/2 of the center to center distance for the sprocket distance.

I rolled the chaincase on my old 650 and there was over 3" of clearance between the 9 tooth driver and the jack shaft.

Your other options, though do include finding either a domestic twin Wedge/GenII chaincase or even an Edge chaincase which are both longer than the Ultra chaincase. Use one of them and you gain length. I think to run that big of track you'll still end up with the jackshaft inside the tunnel... maybe not with the Edge chaincase.

I am still not sure it would fit...(9x2.52/pi)/2+2.5=6.11. Subtract .5 inch from the center to center distance for the diameter of the jack shaft and you get 6.125...that is only .015 clearance....I am sure that will hit. Anyway, I have solved the center to center distance on my own with an extended chaincase. What I really need is a list of tunnel manufactures!

thanx!

The tunnels listed above will be more than the sled is worth and I'm not sure that they will have one that fits as it is an older body style. Yes they are 10 yrs old, try and find a different tunnel from someone on Snowest, might be a better option. I would still call those shops though, they might have something kicking around that they would be willing to get rid of for cheaper that you could make fit.

As for the chaincase, I would just cut and extend it, have a local machine shop do it, get a longer o-ring and you're good to go. An aftermarket chaincase (extended) is probably going to run you upwards of $1000, a newer body style chaincase will be cheaper but will limit you still on what you can do (center to center wise). I would measure up where you want to mount everything, get your center to center for the chaincase, and have it cut and extended. You're going to have to buy a new chain anyway, but by keeping the old case and extending it, you can re-use the gears, bearings, shafts, etc., without having to do a lot of parts swapping to make it work. If you upgrade to a newer chaincase, you will have to get one with the same jackshaft, if the shaft is different, then you might need a new secondary, etc, etc, etc.
Good luck!

Try these quys, Its been a while since we got one from them but they have built many tunnels for the wedges in the old days. I have one on my 98 rmk with a 159. Real clean! Tough as nails!

I would also use a edge chain case and do a complete drop and roll. The edge gives you some where close to an 8" center to center.
With a drop and roll with the jack shaft inside the bulkhead I can't seen you ever needing more clearance. Just my 2 cents! Good luck!
