We got nailed at Caribou Basin!

you should have taken pictures of them next to that super enviromentally friendly, jet fuel burning, non self-propelled, noise polluting helicopter.

I will put up $50 if you decide to go back and fight it. I am sure we could get enough $$$$ for oyu to not just pay this thing......

What do you say Snowesters? A couple of bucks to help fight this crap?

Mounting bull do you have paypal and would you go back and fight it? What would it cost you to run back to Revy?

Thats BS man. Just like the Parks and rec guy around here would drive into private land to see your tags and talk to you. If anyone knows NE south dakota. They can't fine you and Private land.

GO FIGHT IT, i WILL HELP YOU WITH COSTS! It is bad enough what we have to pay just to use a trail for cripes sakes, fight it and win. I am sure many will help with your costs if needed.

well my fifty is in the pot from the other thread, but one thing is for sure as mentioned before, what happens in revy will happen else where, and that the revy club and society have been putting up a great effort for the sledders. so if a bunch gets caught in some loop holes and are honest and up front as stated, then i think the hat should be passed around, and i would enjoy sitting in the court room to hear this out start to finish. my 2 cents.

Thanks guys for all the great replies and support. It nice to know that support is out there. I have my dispute notice ready to go into the mail for Monday morning my other two Friends are going to do the same. I will let everyone know the dates for the hearings. I hope the hearing is going to be on the same day as my friends hearings. Two of us are from Alberta and the other one is from Kamloops. So we will see what happens. I have heard that these hearings can be up to a year away to schedule. So with any luck they will be in the next years sledding seasons so we could just tie it into a sledding trip. I hope with the club's involvement a hearing won't be needed. But we will see. As for the donations that is a really nice gesture and I hope I can do this without the need for extra funds. I will keep everyone posted as to the cost and out come of all this. Thanks again everyone!

A similar thing happened, in the exact same spot, to another group last year. Some were locals. I'm not sure on the outcome, but will try to find out. Like you stated, their is no signage on the mountain, just a crappy sign in the parking area that has poor detail and is hard to see behind the snow bank. With the incident last year the CO had 1 or 2 cops with him and was on the last day of the closure period. Obviously out to "make an example of someone".

Get as much info right now as you can, what you said, what he said, the time of day,the GPS coordinates, trail, trail signs if any,any current closure info and boundary plots,go in with the ammo and make it look like you're serious and they'll likely throw it out.

Let us know if need be, we'll set up a travel fund.Let's fight these guys before it starts.

Let us know the dates for the dispute. I would like to attend as an observer. I wish I could attend as a representative to save you guys the trip. Make sure you get all your evidence and ducks in a row. Find out more about the closure areas and their coordinates, because I am interested ( as is everybody ) to know the details. Did you guys record the GPS coordinates in the spot you were at the time ? I would gladly donate to the cause as well. fight them bassturds.

The 10 riders that were fined last yr. haven`t even got a court date set yet.
Three yrs. ago a local MoE person put into effect elevation closures in the Revelstoke area 1300-2100 meters. without input from the club, no where else in the province has these type of closures.
We were told that the lake would be included in the open area and no one else would be fined until actual boundaries are set. Pretty tough to see imaginary lines in the snow and how many of you carry a GPS?
Besides the sign in the parking lot the other places to get info on Mtn. Caribou Habitat Closures in BC is in the Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis and the sled revy site lists local closures.
If they can fly up there in a chopper and hand out fines makes you wonder why they can`t they put up some signs to mark at least a general closure boundary?
A lot of people feel we are all being set up. The club is asking that everyone stay right away from the lake until actual boundaries are set. Closure areas are open on Wed. Apr. 16.

I was shocked to learn about helicopters being used to monitor this! I tried to get a heli this weekend to film out of, but these wacko's had it rented out all weekend, first just to count caribou and then to go and write tickets.
Who's paying for this? Heli's cost $1000 per hour, just to count beef jerky?
I know you could do this out of a Super Cub for 1/10 the cost!
Taxpayer dollars at work! And what about the noise? These critters get used to sledders, but a helicopter has to scare the hell out of them.
Double standards! Go to court and kick some butt! If you need some funds, I'll be glad to help!

Doc

That's B.S. why would he only write 3 tickets and not 5? If you guys were in the wrong then everyone should have been fined. Sound like the C.O. didn't know where the boundries were either. No signs, GPS coordinates, and only 3 of the 5 ticketed=B.S. IMO.

That's what I was thinking....so sled's doing there own thing is bad, but a helicopter chasing the things around to count them is fine?? I'm no scientist buuuuut

I've been told that if you let the chopper land and then make a run for it, stop again and let it land it over heats and has to cool off for a while

i don't have alot extra to give but count me in on some money to donate to your trip to fight this. If you need just let us know how to get it to you. this is crap, i got a ticket once ON MY OWN FREAKING LAND and i didn't have the time to beat it, but hopefully you do and i'll support ya for it.

How did they ticket you on your own land???

:D:beer;

You read my mind. Maybe it isn't the "right" thing to do but I don't stop to talk to ANYBODY I don't know for sure on the mountain, anywhere. I've been burned twice trying to be honest and forthright.

Fact is, the other side, regardless of who they may be, has decided cheating to win is the way to go. You guys were guilty without trial and that stinks. They KNOW it will cost you a bundle to fight it, they are counting on a guilty plea via paying the fine. This sets a precedent and pretty soon they run more amuck than they already do.

Pretty tempting to make them really work for it in my book;)

Big SURPRISE---Gov't and their lackeys lying to us . Cops , CO's etc spend a lot of time writing tickets that are SH@#. Wake up people and get involved . WE are losing this battle . The Gov't representatives lie to us in the meetings as well .
