Water to Air Intercooler on Nypex

I'm thinking of doing a liquid to air intercooler system on my Nypex. Anybody have any experience with doing this on a 4 stroke. I see the 2 stroke guys are all over it. I was thinking I might incorperate the stock Nytro radiator with the fan into the system along with a small tunnel cooler. I'm a little worried about the extra weight though. I wonder how much cooling that little rad does compared to a U-cooler. Seems like the the 2 strokers coolers are basically just a 4" x 30" U-cooler in the rear. Ideas?

Talk to diamond s they are starting to mess around with it and I was looking into it, but I don't think I wanna mess around with running an extra electric pump

I would ditch the rad, Yamaha uses it to avoid overheating on trails with limted snow I do not think it cools nearly as much as a heat exchanger in the tunnel, you want the coolant to be as cold as possible. I am doing one on a nitro project and will make it semi closed loop so it shares the same coolant as the engine but not mix the two systems together.

Buddy has one on his propane apex...works awesome....they used the power from the fan circuit to run the 12vdc electric circ pump....u cooler in the tunnel....Brad Story built it for him....Hes Chris79 on here....I know it cooled the intake temps down that they had to richen up the mixture...

How are you going to pull that off?

I should have said not mix heat from one to the other.

Two loops with one line tying them together they should not mix together to much, you could run a ball float valve to tie them off from each other, I do not think you will need it. I have to get a spec to see what the bosch pump is rated for pressure yet.

Could the stock water pump be used to circulate the coolant say first to the intercoolers U-cooler then through the intercooler/heat exchanger out of the intercooler/exhanger into the tunnel/running board cooler system then to the engine and back to the intercooler/Ucooler? I'm going to do some tests on the stock rad and fan and figure out what it can really do. I run the fan/rad on my MCX Nytro with no U-cooler or stock tunnel cooler just the main front tunnel cooler and the running boards and I have lots of cooling with that setup so the rad is doing some of the work for sure.

water to air

I ran one on my apex they work great, brad story put it together for me little water pump and a tunnel cooler and intercooler of course.
on a boondocker the intercooler will melt snow instantly when running with that system snow would sit on the intercooler and barely melt. I always wanted to quantify the air temp change but never got it done. julio

problem I think you would have with that will be that the stock system will always be restrickted till its at 150-160 so limited flow and the engine would be in the middle warming it up you would end up with consistent charge temps but most likely warmer than a seperate system.
