water pump seal

what the best method for removing the water pump seal? Manual says pry w/scribe or screwdriver but doesn't seem to be moving. Already bent a scribe.

I watched the polaris mechanic take mine out, he used a screw driver and pried it out. (about impossible to get it out without ruining it). Then to put it back in (a new one) he had a "special tool" looked like a socket that basically did 2 things, put it in straight and set the depth correctly. Since they were $28 each I just let them do it and charge me 1/2 hour. I read that most guys ruin at least one learning so I figured that method was cheaper. Good luck.

you butcher it on the way out i did mine twice. there is no saving it. you can install it your self with two sockets. its pressed onto the shaft and the crankcase houseing. so you have to tap a little on the housing part get it started then start on the shaft inside piece and go back and forth until you seated the two together. both have to be pressed in at the same time. you cant just tap the outer piece down then do the inside.
