Check out the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.

San Juans are under EXTREME avalanche Danger and other areas are under HIGH.
EXTREME = Avalanches are Certain
HIGH = Avalanches are Likely

Be careful out there!

Avalanche Warning in Effect through 01/22/2010 6:00 PM

Southwest flow with abundant moisture will generate heavy snow for the San Juan Mountains starting Thursday afternoon and lasting through Friday. Snowfall will favor south aspects including all areas of the San Juans south of Red Mountain Pass. Total accumulations could exceed 3 feet in the most favored locations. In addition, southerly winds with increase Thursday afternoon and wind gusts could exceed 50 mph Thursday night creating extensive blowing and drifting snow. Natural and human triggered slides will become likely Thursday afternoon. Areas of extreme avalanche danger are possible by Friday with widespread avalanches a near certainty if snow develops as forecast. Backcountry travelers must stay away from all avalanche terrain during this potentially dangerous storm cycle.

This is just ONE of the affected areas. I don't want to be reading about any fellow slowesters getting caught in avy's. Ride smart this weekend everyone!!!

Didn't see a single slide on the hills. There were several small ones that went right across the trail! Dizzle had to remind me that there was one on a hill. lol
